With the help of Matze Ogger, we´ve been building a ramp to grind up this 45° angled square thing. In order to build that ramp we had to force our way into an abandoned beach club – at least we thought it was abandoned until we found some fresh lemons and drinks at the bar.
This is a report about the making of the Daniel Prell Be-mag interview for issue 32.
21.09 Munich – Beheaded birds Main characters: Daniel (skating), Matze Ogger (whatever), Felix (photographer), Basti (the tiny one)
With the help of Matze Ogger, we´ve been building a ramp to grind up this 45° angled square thing. In order to build that ramp we had to force our way into an abandoned beach club – at least we thought it was abandoned until we found some fresh lemons and drinks at the bar. After some refreshments, we started to build the ramp – the main problem was the disgusting headless bird in the landing. Unfortunately, Felix (the photographer) didn´t like the pictures.

Daniel Prell - Bs Royale up the wire2nd spot – the Sissi & Franz rail
Mr. Ogger had the opinion that this rail was impossible to skate – it was extremely fast and the kinks where short and set at weird angles. Luckily the owner of the club gave us 15 minutes to get the shot and leave. It turned out Mr. Ogger was wrong.
3rd spot – the dislocated shoulder
This wasn´t actually supposed to be a spot, we just passed by and Felix fell in love and somehow made me try it. It´s not a kink, the straight rail was welded on the side of the down rail. After some horrible falls and a dislocated shoulder Felix, Ogger and Basti where sure that this „thing“ was absolutely impossible. We finally got the shot after 1,5 packs of cigarettes – unfortunately it was already completely dark so the video clip is 100% crap...
Daniel Prell - Unity to Drop03.10 Hannover – subway, anyone?
Main characters: Daniel (skating), Felix (photographer)
Daniel Prell - SoulThere was this competition in Hannover so we decided to meet one day before the comp and get some shooting done. The first spot was a big green rail to gap close to the main trainstation – due to its height, it had never been done before. A lot of people stopped to watch Daniel try the rail. He gapped 3-4 times till he landed it. The next spot was just around the corner – a gap over a kink rail, a sleeping bum and a cross rail. The run up was extremely short and nobody could believe the fakie 360 Daniel pulled. P.J. Smith lost the lens cover of Daniel´s cam, but he simply bought a new one in a second hand store later that day.
Daniel Prell - Fakie 360After what seems hours of traveling, it was totally dark when we arrived at this square double rail with fucked up approach and a huge flowerbox in the landing – daniel fished it first try, and Smith came up with an sweet kindgrind! Personal highlight of the competition: Daniel skating his final run directly after eating a complete foot long subway sandwich and drinking one liter of coke. Hannover parties rock!
10.10 AugsburgMain characters: Daniel (skating), Felix (photography) & Alex (driver & photographer)
In Augsburg we made the blue paint profile shot. We bought the blue color at a do-it-yourself store, drove to a nearby lake, set up our self-built MacGuyver outdoor studio consisting of some adhesive tape and a bed sheet. We had to try several times to get the shot – After getting colored, Daniel had to jump into the lake to clean himself up again. He nearly died freezing his ass of – especially because he forgot to bring his towel and clothes from home. Back at home we tried something different with daniel´s wheel collection, but the shots were too similar to Jojo Jacobis peanutflips profile shot. The afterparty caused some serious puking...

The next day we skated a huge bank to bank transfer that even the European dirt bike champ didn´t do. In order to jump it we had to build an even bigger bank with wooden boards we brought from Daniel´s home. Somehow the pictures don´t show how big the transfer was and so the pics didn´t end up in the interview. But the tree ride shot we got at the same spot did! Felix borrowed all of Alex´s flashes and did some serious damage to several skateboard kids´ eyes.
The last Augsburg spot was the big red drop rail. Again we needed a board to make the spot skateable, the rail is located directly on a big street and a lot of cars stopped to get a glimpse of what was going on. Best trick was definitely the fishbrain, but sadly we noticed that the shot was out of focus when it was too late.
12.10 Nurenberg – The bustMain characters: Daniel (skating), Felix (photography)
Felix had some spots in mind – we arrived and got kicked out before he could even set up his flashes. The next and last spot was the kink rail attached to a kink ledge. It took ages until the sun was where Felix wanted it to be and even longer before Daniel laced the mute fishbrain while a tram passed by. After getting the shot the police came and wanted to find out what was going on – bad timing, guys.
17.10., 18.10, 19.10. Munich – the Google earth kink railMain characters: Daniel (skating), Felix (photography), Dagmar (coordinator & photography), Basti Hofer (photographer) & Mathias von Gostomski (skating)
As Felix insisted in getting an ao soul shot we drove (45 min.) to this long rail in front of a church, but for some reason the priest didn´t like ao souls. He gave us a few minutes, but God was on his side and the fisheye fucked up the shot.
The next day we wanted to check out this huge drop kink Dagmar found on Google earth. What to say about this rail? It´s huge! The drop is massive, it has 2 kinks and is shoulder-high. Basically we spend a whole day there – first we had to wait several hours till the sun was acceptable. I have never seen Daniel take this much time for a rail before but after falling from the top one time he laced it perfectly, twice.

Right in time for the sundown we arrived at a playground – ignoring the kids Daniel started to use the miniramp-like wood construction to bust a sick wallride. Nothing more to say about this spot.
For the next session we teamed up with Basti Hoffer (photographer) & Mathias von Gostomski.. First spot: A round ledge. Daniel took a while to front nugen even the last mm – in the meantime Mathias laced some sweet stuff! Unfortunately he bruised his heel at the next spot. After that Basti led us to this ridiculous blue, fat, shoulder-high, bent droprail with one meter of cobblestone run up and underwood landing. This shot ended up as an corporate Kizer & Grindhouse ad.
The last spot of the day was an amazing, over head high, straight ledge. There was this huge construction site close by and we organized the biggest board and other stuff to build the best jump ramp ever! Mathias was really mad he couldn´t skate this perfect spot. After some warming up, Daniel came up with an ao topsoul that would make your mother proud!
For some unknown reason we got up extremely late the next day. We weere supposed to meet up with John X-Rated and Ogger to film but when they showed up and we arrived at the first and last spot it was already too dark. The rail was pretty high, the drop normal, the run-up short and there was a cross rail in the end – perfect for a Be-mag shoot. During the shoot, an old lady showed up and asked if we would need any longer cause Felix flashes where making watching TV quiet hard for her. Anyway we had a nice shot of a sweaty ant thus let her enjoy her evening.
25.10. MunichMain characters: Daniel (skating), Felix (photography), Dagmar (coordinator & photography), Basti Hofer (photographer) & Mathias von Gostomski (filming)
Next week, next spot, LVA drop rail – trick to do: switch top mistral. After somebody called the police because Felix looked like a drunken bum (laying on the floor taking pictures) we accomplished that mission – though Daniel had to repeat the trick probably 20 times – in the end he still wasn’t satisfied with the looks of it...
The last spot we shot for this interview is legendary – Its one of Munich’s first spots that has been skated since the beginning of rollerblading. Nowadays most rails have grindkillers, in front of the banks there are flower pots and benches and the police usually arrives before you can put your skates on. Beside all that Daniel somehow managed to get enough speed to lace a picture book perfect zerospin topporn. What could have been a better finale for this interview?
