The “Realstreet Copenhagen” is one of the longest existing Realstreet events in Europe and the stories about it start with free beer at the comp and rollerdisco aftershowparties all the way to rented double floor busses to go from spot to spot. The “Realstreet Copenhagen” always got something special to offer and this time they organized a permission to skate a perfect and brand new build rail and cubspot next to a main road and the afterparty was held on a boat where “Junior Boys” performed this night. But let’s start from the beginning.
Copenhagen. After my first visit some years ago, I fell in love right away. The atmosphere and the people who create it are not comparable with anything else I’ve seen so far. Every year I try to go there as often as possible and the “Realstreet Copenhagen” is another good reason to take the ferry to Denmark and spent some days in the very south of northern Europe. The “Realstreet Copenhagen” is one of the longest existing Realstreet events in Europe and the stories about it start with free beer at the comp and rollerdisco aftershowparties all the way to rented double floor busses to go from spot to spot. But let’s start from the beginning.
To make sure that we, as the people from abroad, don’t forget about Copenhagen’s specials, we got picked up by Tom Ahlqvist in his boat to drive to the party on Friday evening. Six people and his dog in a little boat, on the river on the way to a party. Exciting enough, but on top of it we passed a fashion show which was held in the middle of the river on top of a old submarine, surrounded by little fire spitting islands. What? Exactly! Next day was competition day and the meeting point was a school with some nice warm-up curb. Next to the local stars such as Jacob Juul or Kare Lindberg skaters like Daniel Prell, Timm Kittlitz and Dominik Wagner found their way from Germany and the session already started when I arrived. Grabbing pen and paper for judging and let’s go.
Timm Kittlitz, Fishbrain
Second spot was the one with permission and it was perfect for everything from small tricks, to lines and big stunts. Great choice for sure. Everybody killed the spot in their own way but Dominik Wagner, Kare Lindberg and Timm Kittlitz skated the most stylish and clean lines of the day. Just really enjoyable to watch this kind of “educated” skating. Oh… and for sure there’s another person to be mentioned. Jacob Juul. After he killed the rails he found the biggest gap on place, got the most possible speed and cleared it after 2 tries. His way in making sure people don’t forget who’s the boss up there.
Jacob Juul, 180 Gap
Third and final spot was a steep and fast kinkrail which was perfect for hopping the kink. Most people decided to no skate it at all, since you need to be on top of your game to skate spots like this with control. To make a long story short, here are the highlights: Michael Dalgaard Nielsen tried to gap all the way down from the kink and the crowd freaked out since it looked so scary. Newcomer Ralf Monnerup who never skated a spot like this before, went crazy and did numerous hopp the kink combinations such as Topacid to True Mizu. Crazy how one person can step up his level 100% in just 30 minutes. Daniel Prell was the one who was the closest to catch the win. Without a break he nailed one stunt after the other, all including hopp the kink combinations. It’s a long time ago that I’ve seen him in this good condition and with so much motivation. But hey, who won in the end? The sixth year in a row it was - for sure - Jacob Juul and like every year his final trick was something to talk about for the rest of the year. After countless crazy tricks he fixed the title with a first try 540 Truespin Mizu all the way down. I know you’ve seen this trick at some spots already, but I can guarantee that this trick was never done before at a spot like this. Congrats Jacob. It was obvious for everybody why Jacob just turned pro.

What comes after? Right, the aftershow party. This time held on a boat as part of another big party. “Junior Boys” from Canada gave a great concert and everybody had a good time drinking, laughing and talking. Perfect end of another great Realstreet Copenhagen. Thank you for the memories. We will be back in 2010!
