It has been really tough watching Guillaume Roy (owner of Lylac Skateshop) run around town and work his magic to make this competition happen. It makes me proud to be a part of the Montreal Classic. Year after year Danny Laroche and Guillaume Roy continue to organized this amazing event. A lot has changed with the Montreal scene since the very first Classics in 2001.

Friday was a nice warm up session, where everyone came together for a fun skate and BBQ session at South Parc. It was really nice to see new and old faces that day. The Shima Skate Manufacturing team, Brian Shima, Joey Chase and Marc Moreno, had arrived earlier this week. Skaters came from all over; Quebec, Ontario, New York, France, etc. Hot dogs, beers and good friends... what else can you ask for?

Saturday was the day of the competition with its three different divisions: Beginner (to encourage the lil rippers), AM (the top five advanced to pro) and PRO in which the winner could earn WRS points.

The day was a blur of skaters and tricks. John Lee was on the turntables giving us a large variety of music to the riders juiced. Franco Cammayo from NYC skated mad hard and placed third. Young Kevin Lapierre from Drummondville skated his heart out and took a solid second. I'm always amazed by Roman Abrate's skating. He worked every ramp with huge spins and solid landings winning him the competition.
