Nijmegen Session Report

You've all probably heard of www.rollspots.com (you should have) but what most people don't know is that the site has a great forum and since a few days there is a new section on it; the Sessions.

Everybody posted in one general forum and it all got a little messy so I asked for a sort of calendar were everybody could tell when and where they were skating to make it easier to go skating in places were you never go.

A day later the new section was on the site and the first post was "Friday 17-07 skating at Nijmegen" by a Nijmegen local of course. Since most of the dutch guys had holidays and the other few don't have a social live besides skating, everybody posted they would come to Nijmegen that day.

We arranged to meet at central station at 13.30 so the locals could take the rest on a tour through Nijmegen, and touring in Nijmegen is great, an interesting fact: the girls to boy ratio is 3 to 1 in the age of 18 - 25.
Like a true Dutch session only half of the guys were there at 13.30, a few more arrived at 14.00 and even more called to say they were too drunk last night so they would come even later but they would know were to find us. All in all we had a big group of skaters from all over the country to have a nice day with.

The first spot was a little "thing" I don't know what it is but it was meant as an artpiece I think. But it functioned as a little curb and a cess slide platform. It was too low and we all were bored after 10 minutes so we decided to go to the good spots.

The first spot we went to was the kinkrail at the church. A good spot in Holland doesn't have to have such things as a run up or a landing....

Gijs van Eijsden was the first to get down the rail. After skating 10 mins at the kinkrail which is in the centre of Nijmegen there were a bunch of people amazed by the phenomenom called skating. One strange guy who had his portion of drugs came up to the rail and took a 10 Euro out his pocket and yelled "the fist one to get down the rail gets these 10 Euros" so a guy who came half across the country to get in Nijmegen ran up the stairs ran over the loose stones what we call the run up and souled down the rail, so he could call himself a proskater for getting 10 Euros for 30 seconds of skating.

After that we had enough of the kinkrail and we went to a rail which is next to a museum, yeah I know church, museum ... we are very cultural here.

At the time we got to the museum Steven Tonnon and friends also arrived. Steven put on his skates and was going at it.. he pulled a backside unity to royale and transfer to the ledge. The other guys were having some fun on the rail (Check Gijs' Royale) and then the rich proskater of that day (Boz) thought it would be nice to get down the steep rail but the run up is made of sand so we got some wood which was a little better than sand and he made it down the rail.

We had enough of rails so we decided to go to the new ledge that was build only a week ago as an entrance for the University.

One side is a normal ledge but the other side is a big disaster / drop off / landing between the concrete blocks kind of thing. Since the ledge was all brand new it took us a good 15 mins of waxing to get it nice and smooth.

After skating the regular side Steven who was still going at it decided it was time to get down to Bs Royale the disaster side. He tried it and got half the way the first time and was able to get his ass on the stair-side. Gerben also tried it but he didn't make it to the star-side so he fell between the concrete blocks head first. He was fast enough to get his hand between his head and the blocks so he got away with a hand trauma which is a lot better than a head trauma.

Steven then killed the ledge with a full speed disaster backside royale.

Everybody decided that it was a good moment to call it a day and we all went home to get behind our computers and look at the sessions section when the next session would take place.
