Roces Shadow of the East Street Contest

First of all I would like to say thanks to all of our sponsors: Roces, Rollerblade, Individual Skate Clothing, 3120 Shoe Company and of course to László Szép, Tomi Orosz and Attila Hoschek for all the time and money consuming work they invested.

So let me start at the very beginnig? it was 11 a.m. We arrived at the first spot which is known as the theatre rail. A lot of people were there despite the fact that the comp was to start at 12.30. So we arrived, and so did the police? let me say some words about our police? they were ordered to protect skaters and secure the place for us? but? (it already sounds bad)? but? the police came and started to shout at me why all the skaters crossed the road to jump onto the rail, they claimed that it was too dangerous. I tried to save what could be saved, but the police couldn't be persuaded to cooperate. There was simply no runup for the skaters. Fortunately the main organiser László Szép arrived and started to sort out the quarrel. The outcome was that the street was temporarily closed. We had some 50 competitors including the Polish and the Slovakian guys. Here's a list of some of the trick from the first spot which are worth mentioning:

Tomasz ?Yoghurt? Kwiecien (Poland): topsoul to 360 soul
Tamás Bajnok (Hungary): topacid to truemizou to 270 bs nugen to truesoul
Adam Zurawiecki (Poland): sweatstance to acid to a.o. topacid
Béla Tasnádi (Hungary): 360 topsoul to frontside negative
Csaba ?Zork? Sárosi (Hungary): soul to backslide to a.o. topsoul to acid
Martin Darnadi (Slovakia): topsoul to 450 bs royale

We had to move on quickly because the police was stressing and so we moved to the next spot namely the ?Rail of Avas?. At first glance it seems to be a normal rail, but in reality it's very difficult and technical to skate. The biggest threat is the thornbush at the end of the rail. László Szép and some others tried to catch the skaters so that they wouldn't fall in the bush. They succeeded? more or less. Some tricks from this spot:

Béla Tasnádi (Hungary): 450 royale, ao fishbrain, 360 soul, a.o. pornstar
Norbert Nagy (Hungary): true topacid, true kindgrind
Adam Zuramiecki (Poland): fakie 360 kindgrind
Milán Mászáros (Hungay): fastslide

After the second round we went to the last spot which proved to be a real killer. One of the Polish skaters, Bartek, broke his leg. We gave him our best wishes and wished him a fast recovery! He took the worst slam of the day. We also had two girls competing: Paulina Zawadzka from Poland and Szilvia Lestyán from Hungary. We also want to congratulate them for skating hard! Some of the tricks at the last spot were:

Béla Tasnádi (Hungary): 450 royale, 360 oversoul
Paulina Zawadzka (Poland): soul to backside
Csaba ?Zork? Sárosi (Hungary): negative fish
Milán Csordás (Hungary): pornstar to oversoul
Tomasz ?Yoghurt? Kwiecien (Poland): Fakie 270 backside

And the ranking in the two categories (am/pro):

Am's: :

  1. Csaba ?Zork? Sárosi (HU)
  2. Osváth László (HU)
  3. Szilágyi Krisztián (HU)
  4. Csordás Milán (HU)

Pro's

  1. Béla Tasnádi (HU)
  2. Adam Zurawiecki (PL)
  3. Norbert Nagy (HU)
  4. Tomasz ?Yoghurt? Kwiecien (PL)

Slam of the day: Bartek Zapzeblak (PL)

Best trick: Paulina Zawadzka (PL)

After the comp a group of the skaters started partying right away. Part of them went to some pleasant ledges to chill out. When the guys were about to start skating a woman called me on my phone to inform me the Polish guy, Bartek, needed surgery so she asked us to come to the hospital immediately. Mirek and Adam joined us, but in the end the doctor informed us that it was just a minor operation which could be completed in Poland. So we thanked her and took Bartek with us to the ledges where the rest of us were waiting.

After this we went to the students' hostel to have a shower. That's when I noticed that the Slokavian's were nowhere to be found. I still don't know why they went home right away? I remember that one of them said goodbye to me, but I hadn't thought that they were going home! If one of you guys reads this, please drop me a line.

Back to the party? After we checked in at the hostel the Polish guys decided to get us to have a party at the hostel. All of us thought it would be a good idea and we started to look for a 24/7 grocery store to buy some liquor. We accomplished the mission successfully and started to booze. Once everybody was drunk, we started exchanging teaching each other our languages. The Polish learned some Hungarian and we learned a couple of Polish phrases. The most talented guy was Yoghurt. It's really interesting and a little strange to think back to that night? our main language was English but we tried to master each others national language. It was funny. But if you look the pics of the party, maybe you will understand why I mentioned that it was interesting and strange.

Everybody that didn't come to the event should be sorry because they he really missed something but we can offer you another contest next year.

Oh, yes? and here's a short message to Yoghurt: ?Live fast, die young.?

- Sandra
