When I first saw the cover of More I was really puzzled. I could not pronounce any of the names which were printed there. This is because this DVD is from Japan and all the names sound pretty funny for me.

When I first saw the cover of More I was really puzzled. I could not pronounce any of the names which were printed there. This is because this DVD is from Japan and all the names sound pretty funny for me. Makoto Kobayashi, Keita Jijima, Yuto Suzuki, Masaaki Moriyama, Shintaro Nakayama… these are just a few of the guys which are featured in More.
If you expect something like a Japanese version of Killerboots or Feet you are definitely on the wrong track. More is very different from all the other recent releases. It is not edited a clean as Killerboots of filmed in the same quality as Black Market but it is still great fun to watch it. In new DVD’s I sometimes really miss the happiness and the mood which was reflected in most ‘old school’ videos. This video is different. More is not only about dropping hammers and suicidal stunts. What it is about is fun, the reason why most of us started to rollerblade. This does not mean that there are no sick tricks featured, it only means that there is more than just this. Most of the skaters also have got pretty good style. In my eyes how you do a trick is often more important than what trick you do.
The music which was chosen for More is very unusual. I don’t know if this is what people normally listen to in Japan and I just couldn’t really get used to some of the songs. There are heaps of great spots in Japan. Even tough the weather does not seam to be as sunny as in California I still think Japan would be worth a trip.
All in all this is a quite nice video. Especially if you are interested in how people in other parts of the world skate you should try to figure out a way to get hold of a copy. I really want to praise the producers of this DVD for their work, because such people play an important role in keeping the local scenes together and in promoting them.
