Some years ago I read a statement from the Salomon teammanager back then in an interview where he said that they didn't need any girls on their team. Well that was bullshit, you can't say this nowadays anymore with girls like Martina Svobodova showing up in the street skating scene. He should know better now when he sees Martina skate. I am honored to write this intro for Martina since I have a special connection to all girls out there in the rolling scene. Could be because I am in a relationshop with former pro rollerblader and because I work for TRS Rollerblade. I do strongly believe that every boy out there who sessioned with a girl knows that this is something special. I have random thoughts when I think about Martina: her fast car, a big 2Pac poster in her room, that she plays golf, has a big connection to Richard Taylor (R.I.P.), Gucci sunglasses and that she orders the biggest shirts in the European TRS team.
Hopefully there will be a lot more girls in the future that love our sport and that show us respect for their skating and female skating in general.

Toe-bee : how does a girl get involved with rolling? It`s painfull, dirty, and dangerous, so why would any girl want to start rollingA: when i was younger i mostly hung out with guys. some of my friends started skatin and i was kinda interested in tryin some new so thats how i started skatin. there are lots of sport activities out there that are dirty and painfull and many girls dont care. not all girls are actually girlish as u might think.
meneedmoney: Why don't you ware smaller shirts?A: Cuz i dont like skatin in small shirts... makes me feel uncomfortable. i wear small shirts any other time.
Avichai_from_israel: How do other people who don't skate react when they see what you do in life?? do you get a lot of bullshit from other girls who don't skate who think you are a loser or a tom-boy or such?A: peope react positively... most of the time. and all girls think that im crazy what i do but in the good way. there are also some people who dont understand how i can wear such clothes i wear...but u know what...be urself and dont care what other people think otherwise u wont be hapy in ur life.
Q: How is it like skating with a bunch of guys all the time, do you feel left out or do you feel like a part of the guys?A: I've been always skatin with guys all my life and ive always tried to keep up with them. i rather skate with guys than girls cuz i see lotta inspiration in guys tha in girls.
Q: Are you ever traveling to Israel to come skate ? =)A: I wish...
Shock: Do you think in comps that men/women should compete in the same category? Especially seeing as a lot of the younger skaters are built like 12 year old girls anyway?A: I think girls should be separate from guys in each competition like in any other sport.
Scroller22: Are you worried that the rollerblading scene with girls will die because of no promotion or do you think girls will still show up and have fun? It must be hard to be known in such a under developed sport and being a minority like a girl, how does that influence your skating if at all? by the way your section in opinions was kick assA: I think (and I hope) that girls will be always out there in this rollerbladin scene to show guys that we can do as well as u guys. Of course it's hard to keep up cuz guys do crazy stuff. It's hard to be a girl cuz this sport is already so small and gettin even smaller that we need to do someting to make it bigger than it has ever been.
Meneedmoney: Did you ever try skating in normal shirts and pants (example Kaya Turski)?A: Nah I have never... why do people so care what others wear or do. if u dont feel me leave me alone.
Akating101: Do you feel that as a girl skater people give more respect for your tricks? Do they see it as harder for you than it is for them?A: I think people give us as girls more respect cuz we are girls and this sport is dangerous. So if people see that we can do tricks what guys do they give us more props. It's probably cuz guys can take more pain than girls and that's why they dont care of hurtin themselves or fallin. Girls are tender.
Wall_of_fear: What can you see yourself doing (career-wise) when you're too old to rollerblade? Do you have any other interests, hobbies or maybe persue education? Or can you see yourself being rooted in the industry for years to come?A: It's hard to say... but I go to college cuz i know i won't be skatin all my life. But i might do something with skatin cuz i know lotta people in the industry but u never know what happens.
(.Y.): When you first started rollerblading did you feel out of place as aggressive skating is a generally male dominated sport?A: When I first started skatin I didnt know what the sport was about. But I didn't think it was male dominant sport cuz I saw girls skatin on TV like Fabiola and there were also girls in my city that skated.
Q: How often have you tried to recruit other female rollerbladers into the sport? Did it work?A: Nah I have never... but I always support girls who skate and try to get better.
Q: Being a female has skating around males made you better than if you always skated with girls?A: Yea it def made me better... they make me try and learn new tricks and they are my inspiration.
Be-mag would like to thank Martina for answering these questions
