Connections Video Review

Connections the new release from Casper Jespersen. Cj traveled all around the world to collect footage for this movie and there are skaters from the USA , from Russia and from all over Europe . In order to create this flick many connections were made (people, airplanes, media). Thus the clever title of the DVD.

The cover is well designed. It looks like a metro map (the connections theme again) and was designed by Anders Toxboe. The DVD starts with a very nice menu that really fits the whole concept. You have the following options: play all, single sections, bonus sections and ads. The movie starts with some slams and the disclaimer and after that the intro is on. The black and white intro is well edited to the rock music and contains mostly footage from the sections.

After the introduction it's time for USD Germany team rider Daniel Prell. He alternates very technical switch ups with hard tricks like drop kinkrails. Many of the clips were photographed by our staff photographer Philipp Forstner and can be found in the print magazine or online.

Next a random section follows. This mix section only features skaters from Cj's homecountry and its neighbors. The best skaters from Denmark and Sweden show you what Scandinavia has to offer. Just to name a few, Jacob Juul, Josef Marnell, Terje Fredrikson and Seth Nicolas. Cj was kind enough to add little flags of the countries of all the skaters which is nice so you know where each skaters from

Nick Uhas' was filmed in only 14 days. He hits some crazy switch-ups with some pretty big rail to rail transfers. I'm not a big fan of too many switchups and it doesn't help his style but his sick tricks really make it worth watching. One of the sickest tricks is a soul to ao topporn down a roof. You can check the photo in the reader pics section (4th of May.

A skater with tons of connections all over the world, who's constantly traveling, is Ricardo Lino and so he was a must for this DVD. The profile is all black and white and has rock music, what else did you expect from Lino? Obviously there's a lot of creative tricks and some of his signature negative acids. The rest of the footage wasn't the best in the video but taking his bad injuries last year into account you really have to give him credit for this effort.

After Lino, one of the crazy Russians is profiled. Roman Moiseenkov is his name and he really tears things apart. Unfortunately many tricks were filmed on the Iguana European tour and a good part of this section was already on the Iguana Tour 2004 DVD or on the Be-mag Cities Relinquished DVD. There's a few new clips too and if you haven't seen any of the other videos yet, be sure to check this profile.

The second mix section shows skaters from all around the world. Again Cj added the little flags for all the skaters. In this section Trevor Tylosky shows what he got up his sleeve with his sick rotations to grind.

After that it's time for some contest sections. First there's an edit from this years Winterclash comp. For those who weren't there it gives you a good impression what you've missed and if you were there, it will bring back some the nice memories. The second contest edit is about the RSC. The real street contests in Denmark and Sweden . The edit covers three of these RSC's and all the winners are mentioned. If you've seen this section you really want to go to one of these comps. So check out www.toxboe.net sometimes, they will keep you up-to-date. In both contest edits the winners are shown at the end but that takes a bit too much time because you're watching contests for around 10 minutes in a row, maybe spread it out next time or use it as an extra.

In the outro the usual tracklisting, thank you's and what not are shown along with some funny slams and tricks.

I won't say anything about the bonus sections, they mostly contain rollerblading footage from Denmark .

Overall this video is worth buying. It contains all types of skaters from all around the world and so there's something for everybody. After all I want to thank Cj for sending this DVD and wish him the best for the next projects.
