The Meantime is another Brandon Negrete attempt. After having seen his last attempt I was not too excited to see The Meantime. But I think I judged him wrong. The footage still has this thrashy blur like Road To Nowhere had, but the skating is way better! The Meantime starts off with a real banger. Chris Farmer is skating better than anyone else. How can you do tricks like fakie 540 Mizou and Backslide to AO negative Makio? I’m not too sure anymore whether Farmer is human or not…
KC Roche’s section makes you want to go out and skate. His skating looks fluid, stylish and you really can see how much fun he has on his wheels. KC is definitely no trick machine like Aragon but that’s fine. It’s just like the last KFC DVD which was also fun to watch even if there were hardly any ‘real pros’ on it. Up next is Sean Santamaria. Sean always makes me wonder how he can get sections on DVD’s again and again. I think that style means a lot, but it is not everything and I personally expect people who have sections to show the one or the other difficult or hard trick. For me his section is like fries without salt…
Chase Rushing is skating quite nice and has got hard tricks as well as good looking fluid lines. I hope that Jochen from Ucon will send him a pair of pants because he obviously hasn’t got any money to buy new pants. The friends and roadies section shows some skaters like Michael Stein and Brandon Mateer and is one of the best sections on the whole DVD. Someone who really surprised me was Michael Collins who comes trough with his best profile so far. His tricks are stylish and consistent. Also the music used is not like the other songs on the DVD; he’s got a hip hop track. I think that you can compare Pat Doherty with Sean Santamaria but his tricks are a bit bigger and the overall impression is way better.
Alex Broskow is laying down some hammers as we are used to from first KFC DVD’s. I think his skating has gained much with the ‘rocker-style’ because he is not only doing big tricks but also the nice-to-look-at lines which I very much appreciate. The Brandon Campbell section is as his sections usually are… short and full of hammers. Rock’n’roll is everything I see when I look at this guy even his hairstyle makes him look like Elvis Presley or James Dean!
Big bio’s over stairs… No it’s not Pat Lennon, it’s Mike Lilly. He is one of the great heroes of the new Roces team and he really deserves it. All of his profiles I have seen so far were great and this one is just another one that pushes you to go out and rollerblade. Last but not least there is Dan Leifeld which I can’t remember to have seen on any DVD so far. But he does a good job and finishes this DVD off in a very nice way. There might not be any bonus footage on the DVD but I’m sure that I will also get my hands on Brandon Negrete’s next attempt!

but beside that point, i really thought chase rushing section in this video was one of my favorites. he has always been one of my favorite skaters with such solid style.
I'm pretty sure the skaters aren't saying "OH I LOVE GETTING AWAY WITH EASY CRAP AND MAKING A VIDEO OF IT."
you make it sound like these skaters are con-artists that look for ways to make kids like you cry...
i may get rampaged on this but i like these videos more than a lot of the east coast videos getting released three years ago with the same old spins on handrails with the worst style imaginable.

And don't get me wrong, I like to watch the DVD (I watched it 4 times on one evening!) And I think that it is a lot better than Road to Nowhere, but it can never touch Noir or Forever now!

ah just one note. brandon negrete always says that his dvds are "attempts" and also says so in the texts, so that wasnt a negative comment from lui, just using the wording that brandon is also using.

Sorry Lui, I shouldn’t have left a negative comment with no feedback, here is my two cents...
well the first thing that annoyed me was the referral of Negrete's movies as 'attempts', given he has been an established film maker (love em or hate em) for years now and that The Meantime being reviewed means it has already passed the point of being an 'attempt' at making a movie.
Second, I thought the production quality and use of film in this movie was pretty ground breaking for our industry and lent a unique visual personality to it. Not the best in the world, but in my opinion worthy of more note than how thrashy it was.
I understand that this is a review from a skating standpoint and I can get down with the lack of enthusiasm for the style over substance, Santamaria sucks thing. Yours is a totally fair assessment. But Meantime had more than that, it's got some soul, polyester waistcoats and all it doesn't pretend to be anything that it isn't. I just felt like positive or negative, your review didn’t address many things that made this film stand out. Nothing personal :)
And it looks cool.
P.S. On the 'Doesn't deserve a section' thing, Brandon is an independent film maker not a company or team owner and therefore I recon can make sections of just about whoever he likes, just for shits and giggles.

first off if you dont know jay or havnt seen orange then I'll let you all know that jay is better then probily most of you nd deffintly alot of guys in meantime so his opinion is going to be defferent then someone watching a video not as good as the people in the video. so my opion on the video is farmer, broskow and collins have ill sections love all 3 of them kc roche should never have got a first section in a video let alone a 2nd section he's a very average skater and shouldnt get the hype he does. people like sean Santamaria and others in the video really shouldnt get more then the odd clip in videos. I dont mean to sound like a dick but when I watch a video I want to see people better then me not saying sean Santamaria along with others in the video arnt as good as me but from what I've seen of them doesnt keep my attention in the least bit. other then the 3 sections I mentioned oh and lilly is pretty sick
