Aut: Dan, If you could travel more, where would you like to skate and film?

BCSD: If I could travel more I would first head back to Nag’s Head, North Carolina, go see the pyramids in Egypt, hang out on the Mediterranean in Greece and see Rome. To skate I would want to head out to the west coast and explore the beautiful cement parks out there. To film I would honestly just love to hang out with all my friends in the Midwest.

Aut: Obviously you work with many industry heads with all the behind the scenes work of BCSD, but who would you like to work with on any future video projects?

BCSD: As far as future video projects I will be working on releasing the Bitter Cold Showdown 2007 DVD as soon after the event as possible and will be trying to arrange some additional surprises to go along with the DVD rather than just offering strictly a contest DVD. Other than that I have been lucky enough to be chosen to edit the upcoming Six Won Six Team DVD set to release in Christmas of 2007. I can think of no other company or group of riders I would rather work with and couldn’t be more excited about the project.

Aut: Do you think time travel is possible if you spin fast enough during a unity cess slide?

BCSD: Shhhh…

Aut: Do you have a full time job?
mbrols: Just waht is it that you do, besides BCSD.
Stefan B.: super super low spinny cess slides that are humanly immpossible.

BCSD: I actually work full time for a company called PentaVision Communications, Inc. in South Bend, Indiana. I am a Video Editor / Digital Media Designer. I love my job and I love going to work everyday. I keep pretty occupied with a lot of local, national and international clients on a wide variety of projects; it’s pretty great.

Oh, and in no way do I think of myself as a particularly talented skater but as far as the inhuman unity cess slides; I have tried to stop doing them because I found I would get too caught up in finding stuff to cess slide and not focus on actual grinds. But that doesn’t mean it’s still not in my bag of tricks. I am still flattered though…

Shawn Johnson: What ideas have you and mark of vertigo comprised of to make bittercold better yet again this year?

BCSD: This first thing we are doing that everyone should know about is we are requiring all competitors to register for the event online. This allows us to organize and keep track of all the competitors and divide them appropriately so that first time and unsponsored competitors will have to qualify for the event Friday night. We are doing this due to the overwhelming amount of competitors in the past few years and to speed up the Bitter Cold Showdown on Saturday. This will more tightly focus the competition on those competing for the championship but still allow anyone and everyone to compete.

If you plan on competing in the Bitter Cold Showdown you must register online; to do so please visit the link below.

Along with that the tradeshow will now be known as the “Official Industry Tradeshow of Rollerblading” and will be more professional and exciting than ever before.

Herben Legend: How the hell do you handle all the fucking stress, that's the real question?

BCSD: Haha… It does get pretty stressful at times but after doing this for 7 years I would hope that it gets easier and it does. Every year is basically the same thing but slightly different. It also helps to be working with a great host like Mark Yoo at Vertigo skate park. He has really done so much for the event and his contributions have been immeasurable.

LordBrian |B|CSD: Will you leak out any pics of any new additions to the park or will we all have to just wait and see?

BCSD: Photos of any new additions to the park will not be leaked because we have a strict confidentiality agreement with all architects that work on the park. If you believe that I also have a PS3 to sell you… Seriously, new additions to the park are often not completed until a few days before the event, so it’s impossible to leak any photos before then.

josip: did you ever expect bcsd to get this big?

BCSD: No, I never expected the event to grow to the size it has. I also cannot comprehend that the tradeshow attracts every major company in rollerblading. It is pretty unbelievable considering I started the event when I was 16. I mention that because really no matter how young you are; if you really want to support rollerblading there is so much you can do.

Drew_Amato: I know you and Mark from Vertigo are tight, but do you ever see the comp moving to a bigger complex due to alot of the problems in the past with the park being filled to maximum compacity?

Gegy Boy: question wise i was wondering...have you ever thought about the problems with the park being so crowded during the comps, if so, what?
i know the building is pretty big, have you ever thought expanding the actual skatepark?

BCSD: The allowed maximum capacity of Vertigo skate park is roughly 200-300 occupants, which we pretty much exceed by more than 3 times during the event. If Mark did not have an existing relationship with the local Fire Marshall we would be screwed. A bigger complex would be terrific and Mark and I have discussed possibilities of allowing an unimaginable amount of room for the event while still keeping it at Vertigo but I am not sure if we will ever have the funds.

In addition, as much as we do as far as crowd control during the contest there will always be skaters sitting on handrails and standing in the way. Every year we try everything we can to give the competitors as much space as the park allows but still some insist on getting in the way. These same people will continue to be told to move and will continue to slow down the competition. There is not much more we can do besides hiring a full on security force and constructing temporary barricades.

Bottom line, even considering all the problems with space, there is no better place for the Bitter Cold Showdown to be than Vertigo skate park.

Drew_Amato: Are all the vip people gonna be able to get free pitchers at the after party again Very Happy?

BCSD: No, sorry. We have decided to use the funds to invest in some other things rather than finding ways for underage people to drink. There will still be an after party but it will not be for underage skaters. That is what the hotels are for.

Drew_Amato: Has red roof inn said anything to you about last years festivities? haha
mike callahan: do you think red roof will survive another year of this madness?

BCSD: Haha. After the 2006 event we received a phone call from the Red Roof Inn asking us to no longer list them on the website. I am sure the Red Roof Inn will survive another year but the way things are escalating I am sure there will be a few more people looking for bail money on Sunday morning.

Matt.G: who are your most memorable contestents and why?

BCSD: The single most memorable competitor is without a doubt Ben Weis. He has added so much to the Bitter Cold Showdown starting from the very first event, which to this day is still, in my opinion, the best Bitter Cold Showdown. Since 2001 every event he has attended he manages to do something amazing.

Gegy Boy: first off daniel, i want to say thank you who do you think will win the bcsd this year?

BCSD: You’re welcome. I am going to go out on a limb because I am not sure if he is attending yet; but I am going to say Chris Haffey. I say this because he has not yet competed at an event and I would like for him to and because he is a robot. Other than that I think it is time that an Ohio native wins the event and my money is on Mike Currier.

FightNight: what are the proceeds from bcsd spent on?
josip: oh, do you earn anything off it?

BCSD: I am glad someone asked this question. All of the proceeds from the tradeshow, which is all of the money our sponsors pay for booth space, go directly to the winners of the event. This allows the event to be completely self-sufficient. On top of that, the money raised from spectators and competitors is split up between Vertigo skate park, additional prize money and a small percentage goes to myself.
