The Nokia FISE Contest in Montepellier is one of the last big old contests in Europe which is still around. This year it was the first time for me to visit this contest with such a big history. I didn't know what to expect, as they changed the location from the beach (where the contest was held the last years) to the inner city. The main concept is - as the name Festival International Sport Extremé tells you - to make a big party around the main extreme sports contests. Rollerblading, Skateboarding, BMX, Wakeboarding and Snowboarding. And all this with good live-music, shopping areas and so on. Due to the fact that the FISE Contest is located in the middle of the city (or like the last years at the beach), they also got mad people from outside who are just stopping by to check out the competition.

I was definitely impressed with the masses of people at the actual competition and the good and chill atmosphere. Rollerblading got an awesome timetable and mad people watched the finals. The finalists were Chris Haffey, Franky Morales, Matthias Silhan, Mattheu Heinemann, Bruno Löwe, Stephane Alfano, Julien Cudot, Jeff Stockwell just to name a few. So pretty much the cremé de la cremé was over there. The parcour was alright with more transition than stuff to grind and the ground wasn't the best too (as the skate area was on the water, they had to build a stage in the middle of the river), but still better for rollerblading than for skateboarding (most times it is the other way around). However the very finals in the midday heat were awesome. The crowd and especially the moderator did an awesome job to motivate the finalists.

Chris Haffey, Franky Morales showed their skillz with big airs, spins, disaster and what else. Jeff Stockwell was skating the whole parcour with such a flow again as he wouldn't do anything else the whole day. When Franky skated the masses went wild (probably the remembered him from the last years comp). But the french definitely took over at this comp. Julien Cudot, Mattheu Heinemann, Jeremy Jimenez, Stephane Alfano and Matthias Silhan showed why they are the local heroes. Julien Cudot the little wonderboy from the Winterclash for example just destroyed it and made it up to the very last finals. His final trick was a transfer at the funbox to the ledge (on the drop side): 450° BS Royale. Mattheu Heinemann also showed up with his endless style and creativity and also his boy Jeremy Jimenez showed up and told everyone that the french are back.

However our all time favourite contest destroyer Stephane Alfano showed up late, like a real superstar, but you only can do that, if you also skate like a superstar. So few words with the judges, one moderated warm up trick and the party can start. Stephane laced an incredible line and at the very end in the finals he even landed an 1080 and a huge 360° transfer over the funbox on the kinkrail. If you got skating skills like him, you can even show up late for the main course. So that was it? Not really - one guy is missing. Nokia FISE 2007 winner Mathias Silhan. Our I-view guy from Issue 24 proofed his status again and one with endless flow, tech tricks, good overall skatepark performance and some mad tricks, high spins and so on. Nothing else to say. Besides that Yasutoku skated in an own league again in the Vert competition...Overall it was a good performance of rollerblading in the public, with some extra fun and festival feeling. This is how a competition should be...I am happy that I finally made it to the FISE event and that this competition is still around.

This year was amazing. And yes, that's what we need, more contests like this one to take our lifestyle to the masses.

Much love to everybody that came, magic moments like every year... And the Magic Motherfuckers crew of course !
