Be-mag Issue 24: Jeromy Morris

The function of art is to know the laws of nature, the patterns of nature, the way nature moves, and to know these the artists can not force any laws on nature. So this wonderful sensitive task of coordinating ones own concept of nature, concept of what's to be done, and discipline of action with the given forms of nature, is the balance between doing and not doing that yields the perfect art...

So this wonderful sensitive task of coordinating ones own concept of nature, concept of what's to be done, and discipline of action with the given forms of nature, is the balance between doing and not doing that yields the perfect art.“

Up above is a quote taken from a lecture on creativity in the Orient by Joseph Campbell. I was listening to this lecture on the porch of Adam Benders new Condo in Denver Colorado, where Morris and I came to pick up his new jeep, as well as blade some cement park. When he asked me to do this, I got a bit nervous as I always do, and was not quite sure what to write exactly. I then went outside to listen to this lecture, when instantly I began to think of Jeromy, and his creative process in comparison to the majority of Rollerbladers and what directs them.

Grace, confidence, and fluidity in movement. To me these words describe the „natural” blader. One who moves in such a way that if you stop caring about what “trick” he is doing, you begin to see something entirely different take place. This is the rollerblading to which the word „style” refers. It is rollerblading that transcends rollerblading into a sort of martial arts/dance that when you watch, leaves you feeling good inside without knowing why.
