I always enjoy seeing rollerbladers come together, and what could be sweeter than having a whole skatepark to ourselves. Brampton Comp 2 was held at the recently completed Brampton Skatepark near Toronto Canada. This being the second event of it's kind, we had a lot more exposure for the event. People travelled up to 600 km to compete here, and they weren't disappointed.

Fortunately for us, we had the help of the City of Brampton on our side. They organized and paid for the setup of 3 tents, a sound system, and microphone. Since the main expenses were covered, entry to this comp was free. I wanted to make sure that every kid who was thinking of entering didn't have the cash barrier - if you didn't have any money you can still enter and have the chance of winning some prizes.
The day started off with a few drops of rain, and people were getting nervous. Luckily it cleared up without any time lost. The amateur contest started off in jam format, with kids throwing down tricks that impressed everyone. Pro was next, and everyone was excited to see the style and consistency that rollerblading is all about. There were plenty of people watching in the crowd that just stopped by to see what was going on, and they weren't disappointed.

The finals were 90 second runs, with the whole park to yourself. Ten skaters were picked from each division to skate in the finals, and they had one chance to show everyone what they can do. Overall I was thoroughly impressed, and Aaron Mcinnis - a local Shop-Task - rider came away with first place pro. He put together a flawless run full of spins, full cap tricks, and front torques with finesse.
I would like to thank everyone involved in the event, and particularly the sponsors:
Shop-Task.com, Sixwonsix, Razors, Remz, Eulogy, One Magazine, Kizer, Integrated Distribution, Xsjado, Night Hardware, USD, Deshi, High Five Clothing, CanadianRoll.ca, and of course Be-Mag for giving out free subscriptions.

Check www.daveghent.com/bramptoncomp for pictures and more information about the comp. I look forward the next one in 2009!
