Winterclash DVD Review - 06/07/05

winterclash dvd cover

Yes, finally we got our hands on the Winterclash DVD. It was released just now and you can get it at your favourite skating shops. And the great thing about it is that it only costs 10 Euros. So that is definitely a bargain. So is the DVD worth it? I can already tell you that the DVD is definitely worth the 10 Euros.

Jojo Jacobi, the organizer of the Winterclash, told me about his idea to do a special DVD about the Winterclash shortly before the Winterclash happened. I was a bit skeptical, because with all the stress during the contest and the short period of time you have for filming usually a DVD showcasing a contest is not that amazing. But Jojo had a great concept and a lot of people were already in the skatepark the days before so he decided to give it a try. So you not only had hundreds of camera toting skaters there, but also designated filmers for the Winterclash DVD. You definitely see the great quality of filming when you watch the DVD and see that these guys had ace spots for filming. Mr. Marcel Schubert (who also edited the DVD) and Bassti were responsible for the filming work and they know what they do. Great work on the filming guys, especially keeping in mind that so much was happening at this contest and everyone was filming.

The whole DVD has the concept of a documentary, so not only pure skating but you get to hear what the skaters who were on-site thought about the contest and they also tell you about their experiences and feeling during the contest. It was great to hear that all of the people there had a great time and I am sure that the next Winterclash will be even bigger and better after hearing all this great feedback.

The dvd also shows the whole preparation and a behind the scenes look of the contest. Definitely interesting to see how much work goes into one day of skating. People often underestimate this.

And then you got the skating. When watching these sections you start to shiver. Seeing all the people who came there, the whole vibe and the level of skating. This is such a great event, since people from all over Europe came together for it and really made it happen. A huge venue, loads of starters and a great crowd, what more can you want from a competition. And this dvd emphasizes this feeling. You feel the pain when Tyron and Michi go into the head to head battle for the am champion and you feel the tension rising when Stephane Alfano and Brian Aragon battle it out for the title of the Winterclash. In the course of the DVD the park gets literally destroyed and after seeing this I don't know how anyone could top what happened this year there.

Get this dvd if you were at the Winterclash and want to remember the event and get this DVD if you haven't been to the Winterclash because then there will be no doubt that you will want to go there next year. Jojo props for making this great event, after seeing this DVD you will truely understand what this event means for rollerblading.
