Be-mag Issue 28: Making of the Cover - 08/06/06

I’m not sure if it was the super tasty Mexican food and the lemon juiced Beck’s at Martin’s (Ucon) birthday party, that inspired us to do this shot. Maybe it was the special creative aura created by Tim Wolff (Rollunity.de), Björn Bassner (Rollunity.de), Martin Fussenegger (Defcon 4, UCON) and Jochen “Sporty Spice” Smuda (UCON), just to name a few.



We wanted to come up with something really different this time, something that hasn’t been seen in rollerblading photography. After seeking for an appropriate spot for some time we came across this gap in a run down industry building. Thanks to modern high-technology aka MMS I sent Jochen a photo of the spot and he agreed to jump it. Thus we made our way to a hardware store and got all the needed ingredients.

With 150 € less money in our pockets but 20 litres of paint we headed back home where Tim cut out the Be-mag logo. It was already 10 pm when we arrived at the spot and in the darkness of the night we started to mess up the place. Luckily we were 5 people and everybody was more than anxious to get to it. Perfectly prepared, Lara, Sacha, Björn and Tim started painting the whole spot white while I set up the flashes. After Tim had set up the polystyrene Be-mag logo Jochen arrived in superstar fashion with his girlfriend. After warming up a little bit he was set and ready to go for it.

Ps: Most of you will wonder how we shot the spot, I’ll just tell you this much: Photoshop had it’s fair share but I won’t tell you more as not to ruin the magic for you.
