Live Stream: Bittercold Showdown 2008 full wrap up - 08/02/28

Think of this live update as a post game report, play by play. This years contest went above and beyond our expectations. Organizer Daniel Kinney moved the contest from Vertigo (r.i.p) to the much larger Flow Skatepark in Columbus, Ohio. I saw lots of peoples eyes light up the moment they saw the course, giving testament to the much needed move to a larger park to contain the hundred of skaters soon flooding through its doors. Read on for a full recap of the weekend.

Semi's and Finals - Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 00:04 - By JERO

After whittling down the enormous list of competitors, the semi’s and finals really showed whos day it was to shine. The field got narrowed down to 10 final competitors. There were the stunt men hucking themselves around the park, the tech guys spinning and switching up tricks you’ve never though of, the steezed out fluid guys skating like water, and the guys who have a little piece of it all. It was an unforgettable showdown for sure. Photos by Tom Hisey

BE-MAG Booth!!! - Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 23:57 - By JERO

We were swamped for hours at the Be-Mag booth, handing out free magazines to everybody, meeting skaters, and catching up with old friends. Nearly everybody signed the infamous Be-Mag messageboard, which went from jet black to a sea of color in a matter of a few hours. Check out the flicks of some of the kind folks that stopped by to hang out.

The TRADESHOW!!! - Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 23:52 - By JERO

Easily the biggest and best trade show i’ve ever seen for Rollerblading. The entire back of the park was packed with booths, kids coming in to see products and meet the pro’s and people behind the companies they support. It was a very inspiring turnout. Tom snapped these photos of the booths along the way.

First Day in Ohio - Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 23:49 - By JERO

After sleeping off the haze of a travel day, we started work on the Be-Mag booth. After a few stops at hardware stores, kinkos, etc, and a kind soul lent us his van for a little while, construction began in the far corner of the skatepark. We could hear the qualifiers going on in the distance, lots of cheers and the sounds of shredding. Lots of reunions with old friends, and more talking about how cold it was. At around 2am the park shut down and we left get some sleep for the insanely busy day ahead of us.

Big Shock, it's COLD!!! The drive to Bittercold. - Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 23:45 - By JERO

It says it in the name, Bittercold. We’ve been through it each year for nearly a decade, we see the winter storm in the weather report… and yet we still find it totally necessary to whine and complain about how cold it is. This first post is fully dedicated to grown men stating the obvious fact that it’s a frigid journey to Ohio in February. This year our drive took 17 hours, with ice and snow covered roads the entire way. There was no shortage of cars and trucks spun off on each side of the road, tow trucks and ambulances fixing up damages, and we even witnessed a truck loose control and smash up a number of vehicles right in front of us. Day 1 took every ounce of energy to stay awake, focus, and get to Columbus.
