Day 10 | May5 | heading back to Cali - Wednesday, May 07, 2008 at 15:54 - By kato-remz

one last day of fun visiting a French medieval village in the ‘Larzac’, a 900 years old Templar Knights retreat called ‘La Couvertoirade’, and it’s finally time for us to head home, rest, enjoy the tour memories, and heal the injuries.
——-

This was one great tour once again.
Chaz contest was good fun and don’t forget to buy your booze before 10pm in Scotland.. UK is beautiful and always wet.. Belgium has great beer and one cool skateshop.. Holland is colorful and smoky.. German skaters showed love.. and France taught Franky and Nick that snails really can be eaten..

hope you enjoyed these updates at least as much as we enjoyed making them happen for you.

peace and see you someday, somewhere.

Day8-9 | May3-4 | Montpellier France - Tuesday, May 06, 2008 at 05:00 - By kato-remz

The long awaited FISE weekend came. And everything we expected came together with it: sunny and warm weather, tons of public, short skirts, wild parties, and some fun skating…. Fise is always huge.

Most people got to Montpellier on Thursday, when we arrived on Friday night from germany we were happy to meet up with everyone. Skaters came from allover this year again, the hotel across the street from the event were we stayed was packed as usual. Right off the elevator we bumped into Lomax and Kola again, Farmer, Martina, Dre and Murda. Jacob Juul, Jojo, and tons of other skaters from all over Europe followed… Probably most European countries are always represented at the Fise. Must be noted that a few old school heads appeared too: JeanJean Channet and Issam Tolba were there, also Marc Dubied who entered the comp!

The qualifications for the street pro comp happened the very next day, Saturday:
Einemann was skating fresh, a real pleasure to watch. Silhan was popping lines left and right as he usually does with ease. Alfano was going big, indeed. Jacob had some cool little tricks on lock.
Everyone was shredding, but to me it was clear that Franky and/or Haffey were going to do what it takes to take this the next day..
It became even clearer in the room after the qualifs when the two good friends started verbally battling and debating on who’s got what trick to take the other one down the next day for finals..

Saturday night you ask?.. well you know how Saturday nights go… shit was crazy as usual in Montpellier, Fise organisation had a lot prepared for us indeed, and France must be the real land of the free.. I promess you can do whatever you want, whenever you want.

Sunday, finals:
Einemann seemed still shook from the night before. Nicolas Auroux from France was all over the place with good style. Jacob Juul crusing around and busting tricks with a smile. Steven from the UK was clean. Alfano took it a bit easy on his run but then battled with Das for 10 minutes after the heat to pull a 1260 on the table, while Das from Switzerland went huge by replying with a soulgrind on the big wall ride.
Haffey was being Haffey and he came correct with good gaps and tech grinds although he fucked up a couple times: 3rd place. Silhan killed it with innovative lines and clean tricks: 2nd place. And then Franky went next level on every single trick: FM copyrighted style spins on the table, switchup grinds, a 1/2cab-topsoul-720-out on the rail, an awesome 720 up/ 900 down the flat box, a buckwild 540 transfer gap from some 14 foot quarter pipe into a 5 foot transition…: 1st place.
A good tour ending!

After a good shower we headed to the traditional Paella dinner at my parent’s place (Montpellier is where i grew up). This dinner has been going on for 5 years now, with pros and industry heads present on the Sunday night around a table for a last few hours of fun before heading back home the next day. Martina was there, also Chino from Spain who fucked his knee pretty bad at the rail contest, the Spanish girls too, and Adam Kola, Jojo Jacobi, Jacob Juul, Chris Farmer, Mike Johnson, Dre powell, Chris Haffey, and also snails eaters Nick Wood and Franky Morales… Bon Appetit!

Good Times for this last day of skating on this tour!!

Day7 | May2 | Heidelberg Germany - Sunday, May 04, 2008 at 03:21 - By kato-remz

Great day, great skating, and great people yesterday in Ulm at our ‘GH meets Remz’ event. Today is a well deserved little vacation for all of us, the first since we arrived from the States.

We decide to head for Heidelberg and visit the old town, the old castle, the old bridge, the old bars, the young ladies, and enjoy a day of rest before the FISE contest in Montpellier France on Saturday…

Day6 | May1 | Ulm Germany - Saturday, May 03, 2008 at 08:12 - By kato-remz

6 hours of bed rest did us good today. we all opened eyes at noon after last night’s long drive from belgium, took care of the daily be-mag diary, and headed straight out so we could have some time to eat before the event at 2pm.

today’s stop: GrindHouse meets Remz!

Thorsten (Grindhouse owner) and myself decided to make this happen in Ulm so we could benefit from the indoor skatepark located there (there is no skatepark in Frankfurt, GrindHouse’s actual location).

At 2pm exactly we show up. About 20 skaters are chilling outside..
I have to say that I was a bit stressed for days about everyone being hurt on this tour, and I had no idea what the outcome was going to be for today.

Nick is still very hurt today, and when I saw FM trying to stretch in the parking lot I thought to myself: “Franky couldn’t even walk 3 days ago, does he plan on skating today?!”.. One thing I knew is that IF franky was on skates, both him and Haffey would feed of each other’s skating, and together might come up with a cool session.
That’s exactly what happened.

Franky put his skates on. I couldn’t believe it. Then he dropped in budda position to stretch for a while and evaluate the pain, and finally decided to go for it.

We walked in the park, and about 50 more skaters were there sessioning! The really good turnout got us all juiced. Both Franky and Chris quickly got into the session with the locals and both dropped some pretty good tricks all over the park.
Franky popped a 9, a topsoul360topsoul going up & flat on the middle box, and a phat topsoul transfer on the big wall ride.. This guy just looks to damn good on skates, pure style.
Chris also came up with a couple 9s, some pretty big grind transfers on the middle wall ride, some airs all over the place.. all chilling..

Besides the locals, Benny and the GrindHouse riders were there to meet Remz, so look out for their edit of us coming out pretty soon…

The session ended all on positive notes, everyone juiced from the skating. I can’t even express how proud I was of the pros..
It was a warm feeling today at the ‘GH meets Remz’ event.

Outside, we chilled for a long while with everyone. Chatting, signing, you know how it goes.. Really everyone was happy. Locals were juiced about us, and we were juiced to see them. 70 or 80 people hanging out with us and skating the park brings a lot of fun. The pics should speak for themselves…

GH met Remz today, and we will meet again!

Day5 | Apr30 | Aalst Belgium - Thursday, May 01, 2008 at 15:04 - By kato-remz

07:30am: take off
08:00am: write be-mag updates for the day before
09:00am: land in Germany

12:16pm: arrival in Maastricht
12:37pm: enter Mississippi coffee shop to pick up franky’s prescription.
12:39pm: learn about Franky’s art of rolling blunts
01:49pm: drive to forward freestyle skateshop in Belgium
03:03pm: stuck in traffic for 2 hours
03:39pm: all high in the car from Franky’s second hand blunt smoke during traffic
05:30pm: arrive at Forward freestyle skateshop near Brussels
06:30pm : drive half hour to Sint-Nikolaas skatepark
07:00pm: it sucks being hurt and not be able to session with the large amount of kids present.
11:00pm: get in the car for a 600 kilometers journey
12:11am: drive 210km/hour on the German autobahn with coffee stop every 45minutes to stay awake
04:55am: arrive in Ulm Germany
05:10am: find a hotel in Ulm Germany
05:22am: sleep after 24 hours of madness

Today’s stop at Forward Fresstyle skateshop was very inspiring despite the fact that we were all badly hurt and not quite able to recover after so much driving. Franky’s tail bone was not good at all from sitting in the car all day (even the holland prescription couldn’t help) and Nick’s knee is definitely fucked.

Fortunately when we arrived at the shop it was a warm feeling. Pieter, the proud owner, can take credit for building a local scene of dedicated young skaters and respectful old timers. The shop is clean, welcoming, has all the latest rollerblading gear you can imagine, and is a great hang out spot for locals.
They had a gift for us (that we are enjoying as we type this update), a full cooler of microbrewed local beers from Belgium… nice one Pieter!

We then headed to the park in Sint-Nikolaas, close to Antwerpen. There, 50 more rollerbladers were already sessioning!! We didn’t skate much unfortunately but locals were very cool with us and didn’t hate on the fact that all of us were out of commission.. old, youngs, all very fun people to hang out with.

some real local scene out there at Forward Freestyle, give these guys a visit if you’re around!!

Day4 | Apr29 | London England - Thursday, May 01, 2008 at 05:54 - By kato-remz

Nick and franky feel a bit better this morning, especially Franky who could barelly walk last night but manages to recover quickly by enjoying 2 hours hot baths and a few blunts every night.. it works.

Rained again today, on our way down to London we stopped at a cool skatespot in Milton Keynes’s bus station. This used to just be a regular street spot with marble ledges, but seeing how many people came to skate everyday the city decided to build a few more ledgers and turn the covered place into an ‘official’ skatepark.. clever!
It was school day when we showed up but a good 10 or 15 locals were here sessioning. Haffey skated, Franky filmed, Woodster exercised his leg as prescribed by his favorite English doctor. The UK remz riders Zack, Sy Coburn, and Ty Brissett also were sessioning, and so were Oli Short and Adi Wallace.

We then headed for London city. Unfortunately the heavy rain forced us to cancel the Crawley bowl session so instead we went to check playstation skatepark quickly. Oli Short, who grew up there, explained that the placed burned and had to be rebuilt. Unfortunately the street course isn’t as much fun as it used to be.

And so the long awaited sight-seeing trip through london started. Great fun indeed, and beautiful city!
It became late and we headed back to the hotel, said bye to our friends from Kingdom Magazine and our distributors, and slept 3 or 4 hours before catching our flight to Germany at around 7am.

Eventhough we all got hurt and it rained every single day this was one fun experience.
We got to chill with Paul Hardwick and Mark trebble who do a hell of a good job at keeping it real distributing Remz products in the UK and supporting the scenes, with the Remz UK riders (and the others) who made us feel home and were here to party and skate with us at any moment of the day, and with the cool lads from Kingdom Magazine (Oli, Joe, and Adam whatup!!)

The next official UK event is the Nass competition in June, and we will do our best to be back!
Next tour stop for this tour, Belgium… Can’t wait to see what is up out there!

Day 3 | Apr28 | Birmingham England - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 08:52 - By kato-remz

Having escaped the hotel trouble from the night before, we managed to pick Franky up at Birmingham’s airport almost on time this morning.. yea, it’s good to finally see FM on European grounds!

Haffey and Woodster, hurt from the day before, decide to pay a visit to the hospital while we sit down in a bar to chill and write the bemag update for you all. Doctor’s verdict: extended ligaments in Nick’s knee and Haffey’s wrist fell off and had to be replaced by a hook. But Franky is here to save the day now… mhh..

At around 6pm we head to Birmingham’s skatepark. Basically everyone starts skating, lots of locals showed up for the session, lots of fun on the little spine mini ramp type thing. Everyone wiling out. Haffey puts his skates on despite the injury, Nick gets behind the camera, Franky starts spinning every which way on the rail while Lomax, Short, Farmer, Hardwick, Whitelaw, Brisset, Ski, Kato, and basically everyone was having fun on the little spine. Pros, groms, youngs, olds, all together for some good times.
Then it happens.. Franky sticks doing a TTS on the down ledge and goes down hard on his tailbone. Is this some kind of English curse? wtf!! FM forced to crawl back to the van…

Session still was a lot of fun, park is cool and many people showed up today, but we couldn’t wait to head straight back to the hotel, hot tubs, relaxations, all of us trying to recover as this tour barely started.. we still have many days to go, many people and places to see.. and all of us are jacked (yea, I also smashed my knee hard today..).

Tomorrow.. London. We hope for a quick recovery.

Day 2 | Apr27 | Liverpool England - Monday, April 28, 2008 at 18:41 - By kato-remz

Mark and Paul from Devious, Remz’ distributors in the UK, rang me to set up a road trip down to London after the Chaz Invite contest a couple months ago.
The lads from Kingdom Magazine also had something planned with all the major UK riders (Al Jones, Albert Hooi, Nick Lomax, Oli Short, Zack Whitelaw, Simon Coburn, Ty Brissett, Adi Wallace, Si Cox, ....) and so we joined forces (I mean fun). the Kelsos and Farmer also were going to be with all of us but for some stupid immigration reason only Chris ended up being able to make it..
one more thing didn’t go quite according to plan, Franky’s plane ticket was unexpectedly canceled at the last minute and for no apparent reason.. long story short he couldn’t make it to the UK until Monday morning in Birmingham.

But everything went pretty smoothly that weekend, which was Day1, you probably saw the live update with pics of the comp.
In Remz news, Haffey suffered a wrist injury so he took it a bit easy after taking a fall on it, and the Woodster was seen cruising around all weekend as he usually likes to do. Dominik Wagner was there teaching everyone how to properly find a good line in the new 30,000 pounds bowl built by Chaz Sands and co. Kojot (Remz Poland) can play pingpong almost as good as he can skate.

The day after the comp (our first one on the road) all of us (2 full vans and several cars) headed to Liverpool for a session at Rampworx. A pretty good amount of kids showed up, the UK Remz riders were representing hard as you will see on the future remz edit. Lots of cool shit went down of course (like Haffey coming through with a couple hammers for example) but not so cool shit also went down: Nick took a bad hit on the knee and will most likely be out of commission for some days.. this is bad news of course, but the up side is that he’ll be boozing non stop and will crack us up all day long!
Session ended, kids got tons of free shit, and finally the night came and all of us went nuts in Liverpool. Zack came up, Ski scored, Woodster limped, Jones drank up, trouble followed… until 5 or 6am dwelling in the English city was a great time.
and leaving at 8am to go get Franky in Birmingham Airport may have saved us from getting in trouble after seriously fuckin up the hotel…
