I read his post the day before and then i just couldn't believe it. Its amazing to think that some kids our age can just lose their life like that, and others might live for another 60 years or more.

Fuck guys I won't make it up there for the funeral. We had to stop outside daytona beach because I got a lot sicker than I already was and wouldn't have been able to handle the drive. I'm pissed.

its so crazy how it seems people always seem to pass away that have been on this board. it just puts life in perspective, that even though i never knew royce, i still read his posts, and like i said, i didnt know him, but i still feel really bad to see he has passed. And the support on here is amazing. In all honesty it shows true class that you guys giving your condolences, especially when im sure a lot of you didnt know him either.

I was sad that I couldn't make the funeral this morning, but I was at the wake last night. It was really nice for roc city rollers Mike Torres and Grant Hazelton to come out and pay their respects. They showed up with me, Dan Barnes, Josh Marlinski, Nick Demarchi, Rich Devalentino, Brandon Peszko, Ricky Coster, and Kevin Conway, basically the majority of Buffalo Rollers.
Afterwards we had a memorial session at the park where they stayed open an hour later for us for some private use, which was really nice.
Then I did what Zach would've wanted me to do by pounding whiskey and 151 at the bar.
Carl, thats awesome they buried his skates with him. I know he would've wanted that.
RIP Zach, I'll miss ya so much buddy.

well to start with i live on the opposite side of the country from him. wednesday night mine and zach's friend ted from ft myers came over here (boca raton). the plan was for us to drive straight through to buffalo (about 22 hours) to get there just in time for the funeral and we would take shifts driving and sleeping. i've had a touch of the flu the last week but thought i could just tough it out. we left my place at 3 in the morning and by the time we got to daytona beach i got a lot sicker and started throwing up. that was thursday around 7am. we still had like 18 hours to drive so there was no way we could make it because i wasn't able to drive at all. at that point i couldn't even keep my eyes open in the car because it made me sick. we stayed in a hotel that day then headed back home that night. i got home and threw up a lot more. that all happened yesterday. i still feel fucking terrible, not only from being sick but for missing his funeral but i still tried and he would have understood that.
I'm sorry you couldn't make it, Cash. Grant, Dan Barnes and I didn't know what you looked like, so we kinda waited around after the funeral to see a lone dude wandering around, just so we could meet you and maybe go out for a bite to eat or some shit. Then we saw a Jeep with FL plates in the parking lot right next to our car, so we waited it out to see who it was. Incase you are wondering, it was not you, haha.
Anyway, it was good to see everyone from Buffalo yesterday. Sucks it had to be under those circumstances, but we definitely had a pretty good skate/booze session in Zach's honor.
And yes, there was definitely a fresh ass pair of Razors sitting on the floor at the head of his casket.

So Thursday night, after reading this post all day at work, I decide to take a ladyfriend of mine to an "afterwork" beer.
We get to the bar, I order my drink. maybe 1 minute and a half after I sat, they start projecting a Motorhead concert.
I was like "Whoa, beer + lady + full power Motorhead" sounds like the best memorial beer I could've done.

Wtf, you couldn't make it? I thought you were his friend. What possibly could have happened?
well to start with i live on the opposite side of the country from him. wednesday night mine and zach's friend ted from ft myers came over here (boca raton). the plan was for us to drive straight through to buffalo (about 22 hours) to get there just in time for the funeral and we would take shifts driving and sleeping. i've had a touch of the flu the last week but thought i could just tough it out. we left my place at 3 in the morning and by the time we got to daytona beach i got a lot sicker and started throwing up. that was thursday around 7am. we still had like 18 hours to drive so there was no way we could make it because i wasn't able to drive at all. at that point i couldn't even keep my eyes open in the car because it made me sick. we stayed in a hotel that day then headed back home that night. i got home and threw up a lot more. that all happened yesterday. i still feel fucking terrible, not only from being sick but for missing his funeral but i still tried and he would have understood that.
Alright man, sorry for jumping down your throat. I was thinking what could stop me from going to a friend's funeral, and short of a hostage situation or a car accident I couldn't think of anything.

I'm sorry you couldn't make it, Cash. Grant, Dan Barnes and I didn't know what you looked like, so we kinda waited around after the funeral to see a lone dude wandering around, just so we could meet you and maybe go out for a bite to eat or some shit. Then we saw a Jeep with FL plates in the parking lot right next to our car, so we waited it out to see who it was. Incase you are wondering, it was not you, haha.
Anyway, it was good to see everyone from Buffalo yesterday. Sucks it had to be under those circumstances, but we definitely had a pretty good skate/booze session in Zach's honor.
And yes, there was definitely a fresh ass pair of Razors sitting on the floor at the head of his casket.
Thanks again to Virginia of Xtreme Wheelz for keeping the park open late for a blade only Memorial session, that was really cool and we all laced some tricks for Zach.
I think we all had a good time reminiscing about Zach, lots of stories, laughing and reliving. He was a great character and I'm really glad I could be apart of honoring his life.

I sat at a bus stop out here in L.A. And read the entire post dedicated to our good friend passing........Royce Gracie. It hit me hard but I am going to have a UFC night at my apartment with Heinekens in my bro's memory. I'll definitely miss you Royce. You are a badass period. I am sending my heartfelt love, condolences and blessing to his family and friends.

I find that it is most acceptable to make someone out to be the best person possible after their death. It seems, logically to me, like you would do that by focusing on the good things that they did during their life, and writing off the bad things. I think that him trying to make a fool of someone for a sweater they wore as bad.
In retrospect, I find this idealism something to be embraced. the act of focusing on good things instead of bad seems narrow-minded or hindering to your great perspective of things, but maybe it is what we need to counter-act all the mean, or bad tendencies we seem to have. That being said, I think we should enact that same mentality towards everyone, alive, dead, friends, enemies.. How cute, right?
