tonight i had a founders breakfast stout (over 8% OMFGWTFLOL) and a sweetwater 420 extra pale.
the breakfast stout had a nice brown head and i thought "holy shit that looks like its going to have an amazing chocolate flavor". and goddamnit i was right, it was chocolatey and slightly coffee flavored and you could really taste the alcohol. i really enjoyed it.
sweetwater 420 = fucking pisswater after that stout.

Nope, if it was $6 at a bar it was definitely just the plain old Breakfast Stout. Kentucky Breakfast Stout will set you back $6 for a bottle off the shelf at a store. KBS is super bourbony.

The Sawyer's Triple is almost identical in taste and smell to the Cali-Belgique but without the IPA's hoppy bitter... a little disappointing for the price but I'm still glad I got the bottle.

Pours a pale and cloudy yellow with about an inch of fluffy snow-white head that fizzles down to just a ring in a couple of minutes. Lively carbonation bubbling up all the way until the last sip.

The nose is kind of flat and bland. A twang of wheat, some lemon, and herbal spiciness.

Immediate sweetness on the tip of my tongue and then a parade of fruit: banana, apricot, and lemon-y sourness. Powdery yeast lends some dry earthiness. Finishes peppery with a hint of tea-like hops. As it warmed it left a lingering bitterness on the back of my tongue that felt a bit out place.

Light and crisp with generous carbonation makes for a very drinkable beer and the dry finish makes another sip all the more attractive.

So if you are a fan of Blue Moon or Hoegaarden I would recommend this if you want something with a little bit more complexity of flavor. Also, it is made with "eco-friendly" (they probably didn't want to cough up all the cash for USDA organic certification) so if you're into that then hey, bonus!

They just started importing it so it is probably not on the shelves yet, but eventually you should see a whole line of beers from this Belgian newcomer (newcomer to the US anyways, just did a bit of research and the brewery started in 1890).

I should have reviewed this one sooner (like when I opened the first bottle not long after xmas). Sitting in the fridge for over a month has dulled the hop flavors and aroma a lot more than expected. It is still delicious but it is not really fair to rate or review it as it is.

dogfish head palo santo marron - my favorite dogfish beer i've had so far. it said it was a brown ale, but its unlike any other brown ale i've had so far. 12% abv and it got me feeling good.
new holland mad hatter ipa - hoppy and bitter, just like i like them. not the hoppiest or the bitterest, but definitely enough to satisfy my urge for an ipa.
anderson valley hop ottin' ipa - after the mad hatter this one tasted pretty bland. too smooth, not enough bite.

stone smoked porter - 5.9% abv
at $10 for a 22oz at the bar, this beer was definitely not worth it. overpriced and mediocre in flavor compared to the other porters i've had. overall, the taste was like your standard porter but maybe a bit more dull.

foothills total eclipse stout - 7% abv
this stout was fucky tastyyyyyyyyyy. poured nice with a chocolate colored head, and there was a coffee flavor mixed in with the bitterness. i liked this combo a lot.

today i had:
flying dog gonzo imperial porter - 7.8% abv - poured completely opaque with a tan head. nice roasted malt flavor with the hoppy bitterness to even it out. not my favorite porter i've had but its definitely worth a try.

kona pipeline porter - 5.4% abv - i'm pretty sure i've already posted about this beer in this thread, but goddamn this might be my favorite porter. strong coffee flavor with strong hop flavor, two of my favorite things. i could drink a billion of these things.

sierra nevada esb - 5.9% abv - i already had too much beer by the time i got to this beer. i havent really had that many esbs but this one is worth a shot. i enjoyed it for sure. i guess i could say it was nicely balanced, it wasnt extremely hoppy but it wasnt too sweet either.

definitely not my favorite, but definitely not the worst ipa. i paid $15 for a 22 of this shit. goes down smooth, it has that ipa bite but not enough to appease me. it could have been more bitter!

terrapin indian brown - 6.2% abv
tasted like burned wood, which was pleasantly surprising. definitely not a session beer but worth at try.

highland st therese's pale ale - 5.2% abv
really easy and smooth to drink pale ale. nothing much worth noting, just easy to drink.
