Well im finally getting back into skating for the 3rd time, and have noticed there are so many new brands of skates to choose from. Back in the day i used to skate majestic 12's then k2 fatty pro's, some roces fifth elements and after that some of the first usd thrones that were released.

Anyway ive noticed a lot of these newer type of skates have skins over them. For example the valo's, they seem to have the basic roces boot under it all and nimh a razors boot? I am just curious as to if these skate similar to the boot they are using? ie valo would be similar to roces, or is it just purely for looks?

people have been cutting the shells under the skins, which does give them a different fit and feel.

if they aren't cut they will differ in the fact that the soul plates are different designs.

Bigger souls for the kids that cant lock on.
Go with the classics.
The only benefit I can think of is that you can cut the front of the shell up in case you have wide feet or you're in between shell sizes.

Cheers for the replys.

I guess im just trying to find a new skate that would feel a bit different to what i was used too. Back then i always wanted to try out some remz but what with living in england they werent very easy to get hold of. Do xsjado's and remz skate much differently to how hardboots do? mainly curious about the 'os' remz.

I'd stay away from OS's if you're just getting back into skating, they're a very love-or-hate skate and I think newbs or re-newbs should go with something more neutral or "normal" just to make getting back into skating as smooth as possible.

As for your specific questions, Valos do skate pretty similarly to the M12's, the only functional difference is the soulplate is bigger/better, and the liners are a little different, but the boot and cuff are the exact same thing. This is not taking toe-cutting into account, obviously.

Nimhs and Cults, there is a little more of a difference, as only the shell is shared- the cuffs and souls are different. And the Nimhs have the circumcised toe of course. Although the Vicious and stock Razors liners are pretty similar. I dunno, when I skated Nimhs briefly I thought they felt a good bit different than Cults, which I skated for years.

Razors are a pretty safe bet for a first skate, they are pretty neutral, pretty much anyone can put some Razors on and do their tricks.
