View Full Version : How many of you would pay to download a video?
Im taking a survey to see how many of you would legitimately pay to download a video. im not talking about a web edit. im talking a full lenght video with profiles and all. just trying to get an idea of how many people would pay anywhere from 5-10 dollars to download it full quality . vs how many of you would just bootlet it. keep in mind i plan on paying all the skaters involved with profiles. please let me know your thoughts.
In all honesty I'd say 10 people would buy it. Rollerbladers are the most notorious cheap asses there are, myself included (not saying I'd steal it).

i'd buy it majette. but i dont have a dvd rip/ burner on my computer so if my computer ever crashed i would lose it.
i'd rather buy it from a shop. that way they get money and i have a hard copy.
thats how i feel about cds too.
i like having it in my hands.

i think i wouldnt
i prefer having a physical copy to add to the collection
maybe do something where the online price will be cheaper than the dvd price?
the only problem i see is that it will get leaked on the internet 10 times faster than usual.

I'd rather have the DVD. I'd way rather sit back and watch a skate video full screen on my tv than watch it on my laptop, I dunno why.

This idea is long overdue, but you gotta find ways to lock it down first. I don't know much about video tech, can you put a unique serial # (like an ID3 tag or a watermark) on each digital copy you sell? Only takes 1 anonymous uploader to kill this idea, so get that shit sorted beforehand.
For $10 I would. Cheaper and no waiting.

I would DL movies for sure. Just stream it to my playstation and watch on TV just like a DVD
It is a reasonable idea, however, i feel it would get torrented immediately.
IF you did have a payment system, i would say put like a $5 minimum on it, with donations welcomed. Kind of how some artists do "Pay what you want" pricing on digitalized albums. However, with the amount of people who take advantage of situations like this (i admit, ive done it before), i think a minimum amount should be set.
But i would easily pay $10 for a new Majette video, but not everyone else in this industry is like me
No chance.
this would just allow the waiting period to view a video online for free to shorten drastically.
Yes, the option should exist, and yes, I'd easily pay ten bucks for a movie. Please do it :D

I would pay $5 for the video online, but I would not buy the DVD for $20.
i'd buy it online if I could get a high quality file much like a DVD.

iTunes!
I would pay $10 bucks for a video as long as it was full quality and I was able to copy it to other devices for playback (like another one of my computers, an iPhone, etc). In fact, I would prefer this over buying DVD's because then I wouldn't have to worry about paying $5-7 in shipping for a $20 video. The way things are now, I have to put off video purchases because I try to wait until 3 or so videos I want come out so I can buy all of them at the same time and not feel like I got ripped off on shipping. By the time all of the videos are out I usually have lost interest in at least one of the videos and I have to wait some more for something else to come out. This process keeps repeating itself and I end up not buying anything.
If it were available in an ipod compatible format, sure. I'm too lazy to convert video files. If I liked it enough, I would buy a hard copy too.
rollerblading needs to get with the times and have videos for download. bemag might not be the best place to survey this as i know a lot of people who dont go on here would buy it and not share it out. These days its just as easy to rip a dvd as it is to rip a downloaded movie from itunes - so same deal really. If you want to keepit from being ripped and shared best you can do is what anyone else in any industry does and keep an eye on youtube or what not and file a take down request if its a copyright breach. Just means if your going to put it for download you need legit music really. With downloads its easier for people to see, cheaper for you to produce (no dvd boxes etc) and id be 1000 times more likely to buy it. There are less shops around, internet is easy and it means you can it in an instant - id buy it and i wouldn't share it as this needs to be done. Oh and the fact you could avoid the $15-20 dvd prices and charge around 8 and still make more money is better.
DO IT MAJETTTE!

Find a program that will let you put copyright protection on it...

depends on who would have profiles. If you somehow managed to get cheshire to put out a section, I would pay $10 for his alone.
There are ways to set up "accounts" so if you do lose your digital copy it's easily retrievable.
I understand the love of Hard Copy's and as a pirate I can safely say Piracy is getting a little crazy!!!
Rollerblading DVD's seem to be primarly from the US so it is difficult for us brits to get some without having to be through the teeth for shipping.
Some of them never even see our coastline :'(

I'd buy it from itunes secretly, and then come on here and say I illegally dled it.

A already have bought a few videos off that freestyle culture website or w/e its called

I wouldn't buy either because I already spend too much on other rollerblading gear. Invent wheels that last forever and I'll buy a copy.
I brought Vine St and We are Valo online.

would buy online if offered, but also like having a physical copy. more of these guys: Cheshire, Kamara, Koliner, Bolino

depends on the video
Exactly.
If it was something like Charging, then I'd likely buy it. If it was something like "Killing it" or some other local video, then definately not. I wouldn't even torrent it most likely.
Get the price right though - if its even slightly too much (even half the price of a DVD seems steep) then you're gonna get torrented.
just do it like billy kostka and luke bender did with "not a lifeboat", or radiohead with "in rainbows" and add paypal address to the website for those who want to pay.

If it was a standard like Charg!ng or 4life, then easily £15 online, £20 for a hard copy. However, something like NIMH would only get about £3. Since this is Majette, I'm assuming I would pay £15 ish.

they already do it with ski movies. I have 3. Paying and downloading that is. You don't need to make DVD's, and it's practically instant delivery.
I'd rather have a hard copy but if it were a full quality DL, definitely.

i'd buy it but at a lower price compared to an actual dvd. to be honest i prefer watching videos on my tv than on my computer.

I'd buy for $10.
Do it, and make a limited # of cheap hard copies (like the cheap rerelease of ONEvideo that they did) so that the people who like having a physical collection can be satisfied. But sell the hard copies through NT only, since you wouldn't be making very many of them. Not worth shipping a few cheap discs to California.

You could even just release a limited edition shirt through Denial and have the cheap hard copy be a bonus that comes with the shirt.
