Now I have a technical question, for all of you Remz lovers.

The tongue on the 03 version has been bugging me for a while.

I like my skates to be tiny, and I want to get rid of the foam inside the tongue.

Did anybody ever accomplish this, or at least tried to ?

I opened it up a little, but figured out I'd ask for some advice before I go any further...

My friend Aric did this, he basically slit them across the top, removed all the padding, and then sewed it back together, made them look a million times better.

OK, I started doing this today, did one skate already and it's looking good, even though I didn't even sew the tongue back in.

Only problem is, now I wanna skate these bad boyz ! Seems like I'm gonna take a break from my OS2's ah ah !!!

Once I'm done with the tongue, I'll need some advice on what colors and custom to make though !

I'd go with all black, but I don't have a frame here that I can use on a flat set-up...

I wish I still had my 03 remz. :cry: Hands down best skates Ive ever ridden...

i just recently came across a pair of 03s too and i <3 them, they stirred up my love affair with remz again. i'll post some pics when i get a chance.

when will remz figure out that their 05 and earlier skates were far superior to their new ones and stop skimpin on the liner materials?

I successfully took out the foam from the huge tongue of those skates.

Not so huge anymore, they look way better now !

I really want to try them out, too bad there's not a single spot around here.

Here are mine, the (almost) final version. I want to put some black frames on those, they look so ill on an all-black set-up... Got to wait a few weeks before I get the appropriate frames back.

The 03s were always too much of a hassle, I've never cursed a pair of skates more than those, peeling the skins down to remove the cuffs is like trying to skin a kangaroo with your fingers. :?

I'm skating OS boots right now and they're pretty much my favorite set up, not totally into the liners but they definitely get the job done.

I used to set up all my skates with straps instead of buckles, but since I have been skating OS boots, I kinda realize my ankles are getting old and some additional support won't hurt.

For the first time ever, I'll be skating the 03 with a buckle instead of the good old straps. Weird, isn't it ???

For the longest time, all the way until the 06 models I skated all of my remz cuffless with buckles, it was the best set up. Unfortunately the 06ones came out and were way floppier than previous remz and forced me to move up to Vcut cuffs with straps and buckles which I've skated until these OS boots.

I didn't dye them, just tried to find some soul parts that would go along well with the skin color. Haffey II's soul plates matched up perfect ah ah !

Is all that talk about the 03Le just a trick to get me back to work on those ? I'd have to take out the tongue's foam again, and do some other custom work.

I didnt dye mine at first but after 1,5 years they looked like shit so I had to do it

I dyed mine after one session, they just looked stupid when they weren't dyed. Tan skins, greyish-cream toecap, blue stitching. WAT.

I'll post pics once I get some work done on those.

Side note : if you don't dye them before even skating them, it usually doesn't look too good. Just my opinion, but even if you skate them like once or twice, the minimum beating you take the skates through makes them look half assed if you dye them afterwards...

I'm sorry my good sir but I'll have to disagree. As a seasoned Remz skin dyer/painter/destroyer I've definitly turned old skates new with a good dye job. The LEs just happened to be the first time I tryed to dye any pair of blades.

I feel trapped with my OS boots, there's really nothing to paint aside from the white parts on the liner and the lace holes which I've blacked out. I can't upload any pictures from work but here's this one from rolling mission.

Yeah I like the OSones, the liners were pretty terrible though, not that the OStwos are too much better but at least they're tolerable.

Well duh Fweddie. But really my liners are pretty beat already, I'd have to get new liners and THEN find some OSones in my size. I could probably find some I suppose. I'd like to dye them dark brown and have all black parts, and then my red buckles/backslide plates 8)

So I had this same problem. As Freddy knows, I've had some crisp 03s for a while but could never get into the groove of skating them. About a month ago I started skating them full-time and was loving it... but the bulkiness was almost too much to handle. Then I was looking at them and thought "You know what? Boom. Instant ninja skates. That tongue was causing so much ridiculous build up. Now they look, skate, and feel a hundred times better.

I have to say, I love Remz skates. Probably some of my favourite skates but just a little too bulky! I agree about cutting the second tongue out. I reckon I might get some of the Remz Haffey 2.0 skates (http://www.locoskates.com/product_info.php?products_id=773)and heel-cut them so I can go down a shell size and then just cut out the tongue and cut the skin right down to reveal the cuff and then just lace them real tight to make them look thinner. I reckon that could be sick.

I don't remember this thread at all but Matt, those 03s look incredible. A friend of mine actually has a near mint pair of them, might have to snatch those bad boys and give it a go.

I've been out of my parent's house since I was 18, and don't ever plan on going back other than for a short visit. It would be like going back to childhood, and I'd rather live through hard times and stand up for the lifestyle I chose for myself than admit I was wrong.

Plus I have plenty of friends around the place that could hook me up whenever I'm truly in need.

Ahhh if you didn't already see, go to Kato's facebook, I posted a picture of my friend Mike's Haffeys, he manned up and sewed on a red tab at the top for the ultra throwback feel, so great.

Also, no picture right now but I put white souls on my Haffeys and they ended up looking pretty awesome.

update on the 0301 rebuild.
1. got night souls for my left foot, shit is so fucking beefy, really helps out the front soul plate which get's torn up quick on ledges
2. got cheap sifika liners from rw, shits are vcut but wayyyy too tall for the boot, gotta see how they break in
3. started heat molding boot for a better fit. accidently melted an eyelet or two which i'm gonna replace with a hole punched in the leather
4. cut backs on skins to get at bolts easier. since it made the skin kinda flappy i'm gonna punch holes in the leather and lace it up like the newer models have

Remz liners, and no other liners than those actually.

I don't know what size you wear, but you might be lucky though :

All Remz liners are compatible with Remz skates. Get Remz liners.
Really liking the look of these slimmed down jawns tho. I did the same thing to some 0803s. Looked awesome.

ok so after utter failure with the sifika liners, i went back to the original remz liners, duct taped whatever holes i could and attached the tounge back to the liner. they fit a bit better now that i did the heat molding job, but still i know my toes will be cramped inevitably. haven't skated them yet, waiting to get my car back which has long frame bolts in it.

i can't see in the pic, but where did you cut the tongues off? i was looking at mine and it looks lke cutting everything but the leather toecap would be the way to go, but i feel like i would slip under your liner sometimes.

so i skated my remz for a little while today, so weird to skate remz after being on only xsjados for like 2 years. they hurt hurt my feet alot after being on for about 15 minutes, not like the good hurt you get from tight skates but like weird pressure point stuff. i think i might try another pair of newer remz liners and if i still don't like them then i'll prob just sell 'em.

edit: forgot to mention how fucking FAST those night souls are, holy shit, there must be a different between virgin black uhmw and the white stuff i use cause every soul trick on my rail was straight fire. good job al!

There is a seam connecting the tongue to the leather toecap, I pretty much just cut along that. Not sure what you mean by slip under your liner though?

Why do rollerbladers stay on the outside edge of the wheels / boots when they don't roll? I stay on the center of my wheels without balance problems with all of my skates besides with Salomons size 12.5-13 shell (they are ok lenghtwise but way too large for my feet, that's why I skate 11.5-12 even if it's a bit short) which kinda give that effect.

I just cut the tongues out of my Haffeys, also cut out the "tongues" in the back. Can lace them much much tighter now. Now deciding if I want to black the skins out or go for the chocolate like I originally planned...

So here's what I've got so far...

As I expected, a lot of the materials didn't take the paint very well, came out a bit more glossy than I would have liked. Definitely going to need to be touched up before being completed but here you can see how I removed the top part of the front tongue, and the back tongue completely, I can now tighten them a bit more and they've got a cool look to them when rolling around, unique at least haha.

I'll post the finished product when I've got it, also they'll have black frames on them, Glowicki has my pair right now so I threw on the reds.

Yeah, I'd like to see how you cut the tongue in the front off.

Basically I cut at the first first crease from the top looking down, or just at the 4th eyelit down from the top. I plan on cutting the entire tongue out though now because even though it's much slimmer at the top, there's still some bulk above my foot, we'll see how that goes.

Nice Brady. Did you ever see the remz steve steinmetz tried to dye orange? They were the black and white ones, and instead of turning orange the white leather turned orangish brown like a baseball glove. I don't have a picture though. Kinda like these deshis -------->

I love my 03ones. I still have them in my closet. if I had money for new souls an backslides i would consider skating them again.
