I remember when Jon Julio was flown down to El Paso to do a demo and judge a competition. I was so excited. I had just read my first Daily Bread a few days before and it was the Albuquerque issue, so I asked him if he was from Albuquerque.

BladinAction was by far THE WORST skateshop to order from, holy fuck.

Everytime me or someone I knew ordered from them, something would go wrong, but we would make orders there because they usually had what you wanted when it was out of stock other places, thinking "they can't possibly fuck up again."

I got the yellow Julio 50/50's instead of the red 50/50 frames, my friend got 2 fucking left Shima skates, and my brother waited like 2 months to get some shit they said they had in stock.

I waited two weeks for a shirt and never ordered from there again.

Skatestop.com sent me my DL thrones in three days and I remember running home from school to get them at the front door.

God, blading used to be so fun.

i worked at bladin action back in the day and im the main reason they had everything that everyone wanted and i was the one that started the whole custom skate thing with them. the reason orders got so fucked up was , we sent out like 40-60 skates everyday and only had 2-3 people working there. and all 3 of us were potheads and the owner was a pot head so she didnt care much if we blazed either. and on top of all the orders we had to do , we also had the shop to run, like i dunno if you know bladin action like the shop it self. it was a tiny tiny lil shop that sold mad shit on a daily basis. like i mean in store sales. south philly was the tourist part of philly so people would come in and rent skates for the day and end up buying a new pair right there and mad people would buy rec skates a day and hockey skates and speed skates too. fucking bladin action made mad fuckin cash back then and then stabbed me and other employee's in the back with broken promises. thats my 2 cents on them

They do alot with updating their website constantly with edits, clips, givong products to contests, holding online contests, etc and also gearing up for an Australia tour. I think the idea of a skate company doing a US tour is rad. I havent heard of a Pro Demo Tour in a long time. I used to get so stoked when razors would come to Skaters Xtreme! Bruno Lowe doing 30 mph tru fish on the mini is what made me buy flats. Valo tours the globe, cant we get some love in the states though? If the Truth guys went on a tour to skateparks it would make kids so happy! Fuck it, that would make me happy.

07.04.2009, 13:17
Seems to me that Neo is talking about demo tours... the kind of tours you used to see years ago... a bunch of pros going to parks, doing demos, hanging with kids, product toss, etc... maybe going street skating too. Not filming/photo trips, which is what most of the "tours" people have mentioned in this thread are. When you're just hooking up with a select few locals to get taken to the best local spots and get clips and photos, I don't consider that a tour, at least not in the classical sense.

Well I was just clarifying what we're talking about here. Not saying that the tours should be happening or not.

There aren't enough skate scenes in the US that are large enough to make it worthwhile for their local skatepark to pay for a demo. Most rollerbladers are older now and aren't going to pay $15 or whatever just to watch pros skate. They either don't care to do so or are too cool to admit that they do.

The reason skate companies don't do demo/promo tours nowadays is because the payoff just isn't there anymore, and they can't afford to anyways. They can't even pay their team riders anywhere near a decent wage; how do you think they can afford to spend $10,000+ on a national tour?

Haha, ok, $9,800.

Regardless, there's no kids in blading right now, people. No kids means nobody to attend (aka pay for) demos, which means no tours. You want to see Chris Haffey and Franky come through town, get enough little kids started skating in your area and all the other areas the tour would go through to pay for it.

Well I wasn't addressing you specifically, Kevin. I know ATL has a strong scene, at least of older people... are those 50 people kids or older dudes? How many of those 50 would realistically pay to attend/skate at a pro demo at the park? How many would think they're way too cool for that, or just couldn't afford it? And what scenes within a day's drive could match those numbers?

I am pretty much the only old dude. All my friends are too lame to come to the park with me on Tuesday Night. Every time I go to the park there are 2 or 3 new mini faces... I would say that 80% of those kids would pay to see a demo and there are loads of lame corporations that would be down to throw a couple thousand on Van Stickers and Custom Helmets.

If I stay Sober long enough I may have to do something about this...

Well then maybe the problem is just that perception is different from reality- meaning everyone thinks a tour would lose money while in reality it might at least break even. I think another hurdle is that everyone is scared to invest in anything risky right now... they're all just sticking with the minimums because they're barely selling any product. You're the man in ATL to get it done though, so hopefully you can get something moving.

Look guys. You can probably get government money to buy a bus and turn it into a veggie bus. Then you can drive city to city on vegetable oil obtained for free. Furthermore, if enough hype is generated around the skateparks, little kids will probably show up. Kids who have parents who will spend money on things for them. If the demo is publicized along side something else it could draw even more attention. Like free Tofutti Cuties. And if the clothing isn't awful, non rollerbladers would even buy it. I sell so much Peachcake merch to kids who have never heard the band just because they like how it looks.[/savedrollerblading]
