I was looking at a USD ad the other day and one of the phrases on it was “Genuine Pro Model Skates” and that got me to thinking a bit about “Pro-Model” skates. The goal of purchasing a pro model skate is to get the same setup as the person whose name is represented on the skate. Now when you look around there are quite a few companies with less the “genuine” pro models going for an inflated price of the stock model. For example, the Alex Broskow’s, they are just your basic TRS Access with a different skin, and senate wheels. Now are those senate wheels really worth the extra $50 dollars to have a name attached to a skate? I don’t think so. K2 is also putting out pro-model skates that do not accurately represent the skaters actual set-up. I realize this topic is a bit T-dogish, but is anyone with me in thinking this is a problem that should be addressed within the industry? (For the record I am on K2 transfers)

A pro model should be what the pros actual set-up is.

I don't buy the skates to support the pro, I buy the skate because I think that the proskate will help me be as good as the pro.

It is as if the pro's boots, liners, frames, wheels, and type/shape of soul-plates actually make tricks easier to learn/perform correctly.

i dont think the name on the skate should matter as long as they are good skates.

it is a bit stupid though saying "yeah, this is his pro skate" when the pro rides a totally different setup. youd think eric schrijns k2s would come with fiziks and eulogy wheels but the whole skates k2.

I agree. I wish pro models were actually the same set up as pros. USDs follow pretty good with pro models.

Yeah noone buys pro models for the name. Like I've already ordered the new fiengbergs. I really want them and its not cuz I want to be like aaron. I'm getting his pro model because I want classic thrones, i love mindgame wheels, I like kizer frames, I ride freestyle, and I like the look of the skate.

but what about boot only pro models do they run with a boot on and jump onto a soul and completely miss ciz of no frames? i dont know where im goin with this but its good that some pro models have boot only it allows more customazation how us the comsumer would like it.

USD makes pro models for the actual skater, instead of k2 and shit... it really isnt a problem, per se', but i think if the pro skate doesnt come with anything else besides stock company parts we shouldnt be charged more for it
