What is an H-block?

I know what an h-block is but where did the term come from?

I think its called an "H" block because Tom Hyser invented it for K2. basically a royale spot on any modern frame.

mike, you know thats not right! wasnt there a whole thread about this like a few months ago? got into a debate, but i still think its cause when they are ground down, theres an "H" that shows up

It's because when you look at a frame from the bottom, the block connects the two frame walls form an H. Also, the predecessor to H-blocks were H-plates, which were wraparound metal plates that were stamped out of an H-shaped piece of metal.

god dammit..... thats what I always thought over the years. you can especially tell on gc2 blocks. but then I guess I started thinking about it and overcomplicated it in my brain. I mean half of "hblocks" dont look like an H but yea alot of them do.
