i need to learn how to get the deep shadows and highlights in the pictures but while controlling it. the huge shadow by her eye bothers me.

The clouds are definitely cool, but you're shooting skating, making sure the trick looks the best it can is your primary goal. The clouds and other things that might look cool are secondary.

It did infact have a flash ahha i pointed it at his face to give it fill as the sun was making his face shadowed, I used pretty high power as well. I didnt want it to look un natural so changed my fstop a fair bit - so im glad it wasnt easily noticable :)

more flash would be good on the face and bod. a natural look is good to strive for, but look at other rollerblading pics (or a lot of other pics for that matter) and youll see that the standard 'look' actually isnt that natural...the skater is often well lit from a specific direction or directions that are not necessarily the same as skylight. great pic anyway though.

Some flowers. I applied Vaseline liberally to my lens (well, the UV filter anyways) to get a blurred, soft-focus effect. I couldn't get what I really wanted from this but it still looked mildly amusing to me so I'll share them.

Actually, he should close the aperture a little more (or is that what you meant?). Lens' are usually their sharpest a few stops below the minimum aperature i.e. f11 or f16. Don't worry about slowing down the shutter, that is what flash is for.

my friend said that, too. I'm not a big fan of too much color. These roses were like a dying yellow/orange color so I didn't bother. Colors always look 'cartoony' to me. I think I need to start shooting in AdobeRGB.

if you had a neutral density filter for those 2 sunset shots they would look incredible, the sky is a bit blown out, the filter would reduce the harsh light in the sky and give you a nice variation in the detail of the clouds and colors, not to mention really make the reflected light off the water be a nice dark orange, but nice composition

the concrete and the sky are very plain large areas of color and they drag the eye away from the skater

Yep.

I can see the places where photomerge connected the shots. Use either advanced blending or do a little more color grading to match the different hues of the sky. But still really amazing panorama, I love panoramas to death

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm not too sure EXACTLY what steps i took, but I created a new layer and converted to black and white played with curves quite a bit. Set transparency of the top layer to about 70% and added a bit of a warming filter at the end, probably about 5-10%.

my love of taking pictures is not restricted by technical or aesthetic concerns. i have pictures that i am really proud of, and pictures that i think are really beautiful, or well exposed, and so on. but i also have pictures that are just for fun, super shitty, or for no one but me. it was kind of a joke to put those up here with all the technical details because they are out of focus, awful color, and kind of boring. but it's just a night in my life taking pics, and isnt that what the thread is for? im not trying to prove anything, just showing you how i roll with an old ass point and shoot. :)

i want a fisheye so bad

with the 20d which doesn't have a full sensor, the wide end on my zoom is pretty much nonexistant and it sucks
