It was a double exposure on my holga, using provia 400, so it was over exposed. Only thing I did to it was adjust the levels to darken it up.

^nice shot but i would keep the flash out of the frame and work on the composition a little...i cant really tell how he got there either from the launch ramp? if so then deff should play that up in the frame and get the flash out from behind it....I donno just some thoughts...good stuff though still.
Totally agree, Getting an angle sucked as the park was pretty busy - plus my loan isnt through from uni yet to get pocketwizards. So that flash is on a wein peanut slave which hampered its placement. I did get one better angle but he fucked up the true miszou attempt - it was pretty nuts to get a back roy anyway as it was from that tiny 1 ft kicker.

Messed around tonight, had my friend holding a flash to the left, shutter was at 1" and when I pressed the shutter he pressed the flash. I think this is the best one from tonight:

that park was so dark, i had to shoot at 1600. it's a cannon rebel. i didn't have my flash unit with me except for the first one, so i had to go without. i want to go back and shoot again with my full lighting rig

The best lighting rig in the world can't make up for poor composition.
Nick show the whole scene not just the guy doing the trick so we can know whats going on. Check out some old DB's, ONE, Be-Mag and you'll see what I mean...
This this was my first outing with the new camera. First time shooting skating at night, with remote flashes. Let me know what you think.

watch the fisheye its easy to get into it when u get one...all the pics ive seen on here of urs have been fisheye. take the thing off sometimes. also show epopels faces it can be ok to shoot someones backside but I usually wanna see there face and frontside. shooting with 1 flash...especailly skating, is tough so i wont really comment on the lighting.

Yea I agree, The only reason Ive been shooting with it so much is cause, with one flash, at night, shooting long lens looks horrible. With the fish (or wideangle) I can get closer using more of the flash. Notice the only shots I post with the fish are at night, Anyway, here's one I took today of a skateboarder friend. Minus the filmer and the bag, I like this shot better than any of my fish shots.
http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m105/czachary32486/DSC_0026EDIT.jpg
I like using this lens more than any of my others. Its much sharper, and looks a lot better. I'm getting another flash soon though, so ill be shooting a lot more long lens at night.

no its a fisheye because of the curveture, wide-angles are pretty straight.

He shot it on the D80 which I'm sure is a 1.6x crop and he shot it with a 15mm lens. Which makes it a 24mm wideangle with bad distortion.

no its a fisheye because of the curveture, wide-angles are pretty straight.
He shot it on the D80 which I'm sure is a 1.6x crop and he shot it with a 15mm lens. Which makes it a 24mm wideangle with bad distortion.
Yea, 15mm. Digi sensors are smaller than 35mm. So its considered a fisheye on 35mm, and wide angle on digi. The distortion is not really that bad, at least not as bad as on the 35mm. The formula is just take the focal length of the lens (15mm) and multiply it by about 1.5 and thats the focal length(about 23mm) on a digi slr. And a 70mm lens would be equivalent to a 105mm, etc. I need that damn 10.5 but I aint got no funds.
And to further prove that I dont only shoot 15mm. Here's one I took tonight of Chad Haithcock (aka maybe_ebyam on here).

I think I love Nikon.
It's not really a fisheye, more like a wideangle since of the digicrop.

What I was trying to say is that a fisheye is defined by the distortion it produces, not just the mm or degree of coverage. You can have two 15mm lenses, one being a fisheye and one being a wide-angle, so the mm doesn't alone make it a fisheye or a wide angle. It's still a fisheye, just with a digicrop because of the lens distortion. For example I own the Sigma 15-30 wide-angle for my Canon, and it remains undistorted on a 1.6x crop, yet the Canon 15mm fisheye lens on my same camera is much more distorted.

no, actually the difference is defined by the angle of coverage. the distortation defines whether a fisheye is full frame or circular.
you are right about the mm length of the lens not beig the determining factor. you could have a 16mm fisheye lens (180 degree diagonal coverage) and a 14mm wide angle lens (114 degrees). the mm determines the focal length, not the actual curvature of the glass. the latter of those two lens examples has what is called a rectilinear design.

needs a graduated nd filter
Yeah a couple people have told me about the graduated nd filter when I showed them the picture, and I agree that shots like this would be better if I had one. The only problem is that my lens requires an 82mm filter, which will run around $100, this seems pretty expensive just for a filter. Does anyone know where I could get one for a lot cheaper? By the way, thanks for all your comments.
well check out b&h, they have a bunch of different brands, see who has one for the cheapest for what will suit your needs. its going to be pricy for a lens that big, but if you look at it more as an investment then maybe that will help. buy 82mm lenses so you only need to buy one set of filters. you will be able to use these the rest of your life if you take good care of them so in the long run it pays, plus that image could be sooooooo much better, with the graduated nd ( a regular nd wouldent have the same effect). that sky wouldent be blown out, and the colors you would get in the clouds and the sky would be great, no to mention slowing the exposure time so you get a richer color in the reflection
cool, thanks for the advice man.

Problems I see.
I really dont care to see him skating up the curb before he hits it.
I basically only see his back in the sequence
the best photo in it is porbbaly when hes grabing mute and there is a tree branch over his face
if you needed this to be a equence you probbaly should have shot it above to the side....this could have made a decent still i think if you showed him on the top part of the rail about to jump maybe?. could have also used a flash to bring him out cause its in the shade and kinda flat...well not for a squence but yea
for that mistfit pic watch the shadows that ledge makes awful shadows on the wall behind him, I donno if its on flash or 2? if u have 2 backlight/rimlight for sure woul be a good choice. ...even if one all ud have to do to kill the shiity shadows is get a bigger light stand and rais the flash up a bit.

^got more light on the wall then you do the skater along with a really harsh shadow which could have been avoided by placing the flash farther back toward the backround. also would have gotten more light on him and not the wall doing that.
