what do you mean by being cross processed?
the guy is just sitting on his knees, but i took the pic right in front of him so that his knees would get out of the picture.

i didnt photoshop the colors, just played with the levels to make it look like the original copy (ive got a weird scanner)

its really green, it looks like its been cross processed. cross processing is when you develop print film in E-6 or slide film in C-41...

as for the rainbowcolorphotos: its at the dutch architect institute. some architect/artist designed the hall with the rainbow lights. the funny thing is that the colors change every 15 minutes. me and my friend were sitting in the green light. and suddenly it turned another color and we were like WHAT THE FRICK?? it was so weird!

I always look like that. The rest, yes are always styled. That's the benefit of having staffed makeup artists and a photography intern... never short on anything.

Thanks though! It is sort of refreshing to finally be able to show some more commercial oriented work. I'll have a lot more things coming along shortly I imagine.

Just look around your area or look in modeling directory websites for your country for makeup artists.. don't have to have a dedicated staff but often there are many makeup artists or girls who want to become makeup artists that would be willing to do some work with you for free simply to build their portfolio.

kevin do you put up ads for your models or do you get them referred to you by modelling agencies? or are you just fucking lucky and know lots and lots of hot girls?

I don't put up ads for models, but I do have affiliations with some of the largest american and international modeling and talent agencies. I have contact with literally, over thousands of different models accross the US and any where I go there are at least 30 models available to work with. (Fewer internationally) The agencies got in contact with me a while ago and made sure we both established this working relationship. It benefits the both of us.

It pretty much goes like this: I call up modeling agencies 1, 2, and 3. I tell them I'm traveling to CA in a week and that I'll have X amount of time set aside for photo shoots. They'll let their models know in a newsletter style thing and they always talk me up. Pretty soon, sometimes right away) the emails come in from the models letting me know they want to work with me. The agencies also will make sure their top models or the models that need more in their portfolios get first dibbs at the timeslots.

Other than that, for like around here.. I contact the local models through the agency directories, or get contacted by locals from their photographer directories. I stand out from the rest of the photographers they have listed because I'm the only one also listed as a Film Maker which puts me on the top of their list. Most of the high fashion modeling agencies I work with havn't established a foot in the entertainment world with their models. There are other agencies specifically for putting talent on screen. So, they wouldn't really have many other film makers in their directory.

There's also the blessing of living in Orlando, where there are lots of models and aspiring models and so yes.. it's both the agencies and being surrouned by "hot girls".

Example... one of the pop artists I'm directing a 35mm music video for, we were both hanging out at Universal. On our way out there were these 2 extremely gorgeous girls walking right in front of us. I started talking to them, asked where they were from, their age, what their names were, what they wanted to do, etc etc... got to the what they want to do part and them bam... the one wanted to be a dancer and has been dancing since she was a kid.. in contests and things. The other dances but was more serious about modeling and has been since she was 10. Anyway, they talked about going to CA in a year and I said I'd help them make sure they got some big things under their belt so they wern't going over there completely fresh.. makes their life a lot easier over there to have established credits in their list.

First project they're in on.. his music video we're shooting at the airport. Has some really interesting dance routines.

kevin, i've remember reading somewhere that your hair used to be blonde but u died it black, how did u manage to safely do your eyebrows too? i wanna dye my hair black, but i'm afraid of having blonde eyebrows still................. great pictures too

Actually, yeah I dyed it black in February soley for the purpose of letting it grow out to have blonde hair benieth the black. So, blonde hair with black tips. The color of my blonde hair was pretty dark, and so were my eyebrows. So, with dark hair on the brows you can't tell the major difference. Mine look fine with black or blonde hair... or both as the case is now. :D

we were on a stop during a bus ride and this guy hit a bird, so i took a pic of it then tried to get it out but it was too stuck, so the guy that owned the car got the bird out.

don't know what happened to the bird after, poor guy :(

i do love your light meter, right now for my kiev im using my nikon FG as a spot meter with a grey card. talk about a pain in the ass. i've been taking pictures every day for the last week also, my bank account is offically -100 dollars and counting haha.

a shot from early this summer that i finally got made digital...shot on kodak elitechrome slide film. the b/w ones were orginally color i didnt like the pictures too much but i like the sequence type deal...i like the picture alot, thers lots of lil details in it that i think are cool, the one blue garbage can the one window with the blue sky the shadow of the eltric lines u see in the top of the photoetc just little thing... anyways here...o you might recgonize this rail from DB it was in the chicago issue awhile back...feedback is aprecitated

cupboardface, the closest dial to the camera is ur aperture, the bigger the aperture number the less light you'll let in and vice versa if your camera has a meter of somesorts on the aperture its a HUGE help it mite be just a needle or it mite be some coloured lights inside the viewfinder which will only show up when u half depress the shutter p.s you may have to put in a new batterey because a lot of cameras meter all the time when the lens cap is off, then u have ur shutterspeed, the longer ur shutterspeed (towards the B (Its REALLY difficult to shoot a photo without a tripod below 1/60 of a second so u mite need a tripod!)) the less ur aperture will need to be so by doubling ur shutter speed u can half ur aperture and vice versa and as far as i can guess ur last ring is the focus, it mite not be though, on some old cameras you got shutterspeed and aperture but you couldnt focus, they just had fixed focal length, just play with it, if you can get into a darkroom and can do your own prints go for black and white cuz its much easier and better fun if not just go for colour and get it processed at ur local camera shop, basically just have fun, u mite end up with some really cool looking photos and then again u mite end up with some REAL crap, its all experimenting!

I'd suggest you use a tripod next time, you've got quite some blurrienes in this pic. Also a color compensation filter would'nt hurt.

Poetry is better then photography because the abstractness of words allows for more divers interpretation. Photography is too tied to the physical world and therefor to reality. Because of this photographers use all kinds of cliché poetic visual tricks to add "meaning", "atmosphere" and "depth" to their pics when in reality they're only reducing their images to a pethatic superficiality.

true. the quality isnt the best, but the composition and the place where you took the photo are great if you ask me. try using flash slaves. that will definately change the photo (the shades on the skater) and increase its quality..

Thanks alot for replying... My camera at the moment doesnt even have a hot shoe mount, lol. I'll probably buy a new camera in a few months with radio slaves and flashes... I have also been taking photos with an old manual 35mm camera for photo class, I'll post some of those when I find a scanner.

That park is a multimillion dollar park..has tons of concrete bowls, even has a 24ft FULLPIPE!! an awesome street course (all concrete of course) and this is just the first phase. soon to come is a 20,000 sq. ft. indoor park with a huge halfpip on the roof!!

No pads, no rules, and lights 24/7. I strongly suggest anyone who hasn't been make a trip...you won't regret it. It is by far THE best park ever!

ok so heres the story, i get a call from a girl who is a friend of a friend 3 nites ago and she wants me and a friend to take some photos for a fashion show in feburary, im a photography student at the moment and this girl is doing fashion and these shots are for her portfolio but she doesnt have that much to spend on all this cuz the photography budget is coming out of her own pocket so how much do u think we should charge its gonna be 2 of us with 2 cameras for about 2 hours

shes doing you a favor aswell as you doing her one all work like that looks good on a portfolio and you could even use some of the shot in your phtography projects at college..... dependent on if you need to hire studio equipment or whatever will make the price.
anywhere between £5-£10 an hour would be a good deal....
will you need to develop the pics to as thats all extra costing.. printing if its digitial is extra to.. theres lots to thinkabout

steez, i like the atmosphere, its like warm. but i HATE the black border :)

cupboard: i think thats because of the composition. its not common for laymen, thats why people think its an interesting shot. i like your pic as well, but personally id put the subject a bit more to the upperleft.
2/3-2/3 is a golden rule, even if you put it upsidedown ;) go figure out!

i see you messed with the aperture? nice one. i like the atmosphere in the second.. though i think the skew line in the back is disturbing haha
oh and as for the 3d one: it would be cool if youd try this shot again, but then sit right under your friends butt. i bet that would be a crazy image haha, like some guy hanging in the air in a frozen position
