Fucking sick set, sharky. 2, 3, 9 and 14 stand out for me the most.
Wish I had anything that good to share. I went on a solo walk, about 4 miles through east london at 4c. Fun! The point was to test a little 58mm f2 Helios lens I got for cheap at the market. I was quite happy with the results.

Recently I went through my dads old photo stuff and found an unused roll of film that expired in 1982. It was a 635 film, so I transported it into an used 135 cassette

I usually mess up drying the prints depending on the print size.. haha.
Haven't done any prints myself yet, but my dads stuff includes a print dryer :)

Yeah, if you have a dryer then you're set.
For the film if you just resubmerge it and redry it the spots should go away.

If you have any of the cleaning solution you use before drying (some people use dish soap) soak it it for a few minutes after a 10 min warm water bath then dry as normal.

Real nice. I've been debating getting an F5 as a 2nd body. My Minolta X370 technically works fine, but doesn't compare with an F5.
You seem like you've tried out a lot of equipment. Maybe you, or someone else on here, can help me with a dilemma I'm having.
I've decided that I don't want to bother getting an FX digital for another year or so (probably a D700 w/battery grip), and just use my FX lenses on my D300 in the meantime.
I have a 24mm 2.8 AF, 50mm 1.8 AF and 80-200 2.8 AF (all Nikkor). I don't like only getting 38mm out of my 24mm on my D300. I do like having the equivalent of a 80mm f/1.8 and a 128-320 f/2.8, both with excellent bokeh.
If I opted for the F5 body, then I could use the 24mm 2.8 lens and not stress about going wider, my 50mm and my telephoto would be at the correct focal length. I'd play with the F5 alongside my D300 enough to figure out if there are any inconsistencies between the two at similar settings, and apply the necessary compensations if it was off a stop or so. Plus, I'd have 2 bodies on me, when the situation arose. Having a wide and a telephoto would be really handy when taking the time to change out a lens isn't possible.
I've been debating on getting the Tokina 12-24mm f/4 DX lens, because I like the range (would probably use it more towards the 20-24mm range) and the price seems stable if I want to sell it when I upgrade the body, I could get close to what I paid for it. It's not as fast as the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, but the range with that lens is really limited.
I mostly shoot weddings, the occasional portrait and other events with people where candid, photojournalist style shots are needed.
My question is, what would you do?
1. Get the F5 and make more use of my available lenses with DX and 35mm formats (about $350-$450)
w/ F5 - 24mm, 50mm, 80-200mm
w/ D300 - 38mm, 80mm, 128-300mm
2. Get the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 ($700)
3. Get the Tokina 12-24 f/4 ($400 - $600)?
I'm leaning towards #1 so I can have two bodies and swap back and forth, it's a huge time saver. I might be able to swing getting both the F5 and the 11-16mm 2.8. That would be the ideal situation, but it ain't gonna happen until I rack up the dough. I need to get another SB-600 if I get the F5. Fuck, this is an expensive hobby :lol:
Get the F5. It is a superb camera with phenomenal build quality and brutally fast AF.

Do you use 8 AA Ni-MHs or a MN-30? Do you have, or are you considering getting the MV-1 EXIF data reader?
I just use eight AAs. I would use the battery pack if I could find one. I was just going to buy a data back so I could get the exposure data printed right onto the film.

I just got a photo gig covering a 4 hour block of the state gymnastics finals this Saturday. Hopefully, it's a women's event, but either way, it's a great opportunity to shoot something new. I'll make sure to post some shots when I'm allowed to. Not the best pay, but it should be a good time.
Also got another freelance job shooting events at central Indiana universities, mostly sorority and fraternity shit. nothing really in Indianapolis except for Butler University, mostly just Purdue University which is an hour away. Pretty good pay, though.

I'd like to know how you get so many sexy ladies to let you photograph them, are they friends or people youve met briefly and propositioned? Or through an agency?

These were shot on my own CF card, I have zero rights to any of the shots I took on the CF cards of the company I was shooting for. Too bad, I got a really great shot of this girl getting fucking wrecked on the top uneven bar, she racked her ribs, and her arms and legs were all akimbo :lol: She was fine, it was just a gnarly shot.
Everything except the top photo was shot 1.8, the top was shot at 2.8. ISO was either 1600 or 3200, shutter speeds from 1/200 to 1/1000.

No online listing here. I just get called up for stuff or I try and dig around. But mostly the jobs I get come to me.

We went to the Indianapolis Children's Museum today because there was free admission for Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. The massive amounts of trashy, rude assholes made it a really shitty experience. The only time it was enjoyable was when you got outside and away from the people, but then it was just above freezing and drizzling out. Still better than being inside.

the mark 3 is on pre order, if you wait a month or 2 the price will come down on the mark 2, you could save a couple hundred.
worth the wait, mark 3 is pathetic upgrade for the cash, nikons new digital will force canon to lower it price, but given canons history of stubborn behavior, i imagine they will drop the mark 2 price as a compromise to new customers (as they over produced the camera in the middle of last year after it sold out and need to close production on it to push the 3 to a pro photographer who needs video, let the 7d be for the videographer who needs photos)

My boss is an adamant Canon guy, and he's really excited about the Nikon D800 because of exactly what you typed here.

I swallowed my pride and accepted 2 wedding bookings so the 5d mk2 will pay for itself (plus i'll need the camera for said weddings and a host other shit in the next couple months), 50mm 1.2 is pretty low down on my L lens shopping list...the 50mm 1.4 USM is legit for the price and will get me through the next 12-24 months; I just needed to get rid of the 1.8 from my set-up for now.

Cool shit, Eddie....my asshole tightens when putting down serious money on a plastic box (Peli cases), but I know they'll probably out live me.
Me and my boss are each over 200 lbs. We stand on the Pelican cases (two 1610s) with lenses and other gear inside of them when we do family group shots. As long as you have the padding inside the case picked apart to fit your gear snug, you should not worry at all.

I hate weddings whether shooting them or as a guest, the small talk guests make with you, the random wedding guest with an entry level canon w/kit lens who either "competes" with you or thinks his 3 months of owning a camera and what he's learned are going to be of any interest to me. The fucking grandmother of the bride who wont smile in photos, asking people to "smile" or using lame humour to get them to stop being awkward, processing all the photos after the wedding and having to relive the whole wretched affair. The stupid outfits the women wear, caked in fake tan, fake nails and giggling at everything they say to each other. Im just too miserable for the gig haha.
I got nothing against wedding photographers, especially those who can make bank and do interesting work; if you enjoy weddings then good for you. Weddings were never why I started shooting, they don't "stimulate" me at all but they are good at making you a better photographer and can be fast money. Any event...be it prom, wedding, charity ball etc make me want to cry a little.
I do want to do an Indian wedding, a gypsy wedding and id happily travel to America to do a ghetto wedding haha
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to nb again.

Since I was kind of anti-social before shooting weddings, it's made me much friendlier and more open to talking to people that I don't know. I don't mind the small talk, I've gotten good at abruptly ending a conversation when it's time to work. It has helped me shoot other events where alcohol is involved and people start blabbering on about nothing.
People with little cameras don't bother me unless they get in my way. When that happens, I just politely let them know that the bride and groom paid a lot of money for me to be here and that they need to let me do my job. I have no problem getting in their way, and smile inside when I know they just got most of my back and half of my ass in their shot :lol:
Since our contract states that we cannot guarantee any shot will come out to the bride and grooms expectation, if someone blinks in a group shot it's not our fault. Let the bride and groom get pissed at granny. My boss is pretty corny at times, and I can't quite bring myself to say some of the stuff he says to get people to smile. I really try to feel out the personalities of the family members so that I can say something that gets a natural smile or laugh, not a pity laugh like my boss usually gets :lol: It's like creative problem solving, and I thrive on stuff like that.
I really like processing the photos, because it let's me see where I've messed up and what I need to do to fix it in the future. My photography skills have progressed a lot because of this. In the beginning, my boss would do the processing and he'd be pretty brutal sometimes when I made a mistake with exposure or composition, but it was for the best.
I didn't start shooting to shoot weddings, I started shooting weddings to become a better photographer and I believe that it's worked wonders. My boss, despite being corny at times, it a really smart and savvy businessman, and an excellent teacher. In the next few years, we hope to reach the higest tier of pay for wedding photographers in the state, around $7,000+ per wedding.
I was supposed to help shoot an Indian wedding in early September, but I'm shooting a wedding in Poland instead.

Is it common for a wedding photographer to wear a suit over there? I can't imagine having to wear one. I wear black dress pants and a black short sleeve polo shirt & dress shoes. I need to climb stuff, get on the ground, etc. I would find a suit to be way too restrictive.
I don't want to look like a wedding guest.

Thats pretty much the exact setup I just got. Except instead of the 70-200L I got the 135L, also picked up a 5Dc body/grip and a 530EXII. probably pick up a 85L next. Digging everything so far, i coming from Nikon so it's quite the learning curve but I'm getting the hang of it.
As far as the 5dIII vs D800 debate goes. I personally would rather have the 5DIII. I have no need in the world for 36MP, nor the hard drive space to accommodate it. I do agree the price increase is excessive though. I mean basically all they did was fix the major issues with the 5DII. I'd mainly be stoked on the improved AF. Thats the only thing lacking from my Nikons. I'll wait a year or so until the drop the price.
I went on vacation in mexico, took some pics. Criticism would be greatly appreciated.

It wasn't even cold when I shot that. But from other shoots in the cold I can tell you that I didn't notice any slow down in camera mechanics, but the batteries drain a lot faster. And my hands get cold fast, that's the biggest problem :P
It was a Nikkor 10.5mm fisheye on a D70s, it doesn't have any filter slots, no filter. Nikon and Canon fisheyes are pretty good at handling backlight, I hardly ever get ghosts. We did 2 shots like this and I managed to hide the lens before the snow hit me, so no wiping too.
As for condensation, after I go home from shooting when freezing I keep the camera in the bag for about 15 minutes, and then out of the bag for another 15-30 minutes (depending how cold it was) before I turn it on again. If you have a separate card reader it's not a big deal.

Look into "texting" gloves. I have a really nice leather pair, and on both hands, just the index finger and thumb flips back.

I feel like a dummy, but I've come to the conclusion that my shitty no-name UV fliters for all of my lenses need to be replaced with Hoya Super HMC multi-coated UV filters. My 24mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.8 especially ghost so bad, even indoors from most bright points of light. My 80-200 2.8 is not too bad, but could be better.
Amazon.com has them way cheaper than local camera stores, gonna have to get some when i get my Tokina 11-16mm 2.8.
I prefer no filter. Maybe if I got some badass 1.2L lens or something I'd invest in a good one, but for now I don't think about it.

I sometimes need to throw a lens into my bag at a moments notice when changing lenses, without a filter I would probably scratch the shit out of the surface of a lens. Probably another reason that I need two bodies :lol:

I looked at the photos in Lightroom and saw that the settings were not crazy like you used to post, but didn't comment on it. I had no idea you had posted lifted work until nb pointed it out.

I make $20/hr as a graphic designer and photographer for where I work Mon.-Fri.
Congrats on getting an internship for a radio network, i thought you had to have graduated from a post secondary school within the last 12 months to get an internship (http://www.npr.org/about/careers/internships.html) there. Didn't you drop out of photo school for psychology or something? Keep your story straight.

I'd include more of the kicker in the photo, and maybe move myself more to the left and closer to the ledge to get more depth, depending how the background would change. But it's not bad :) what were your settings (shutter, aperture, ISO)?

Just got my first camera in January. I've been reading some different books/websites but also just trying to learn as much as possible by getting out and shooting. I'm pretty happy with the progress I've made with still shots but when I shoot skating/snowboarding I still struggle with the combination of low light+motion.

I found a barely used, mint condition Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 for $500 cash with all original box & caps, locally. I think I'm gonna snatch this motherfucker up on Sunday 8)

So I have been enjoying birds since noticing some hummingbirds and others on a hike about a year and a half ago. I've been trying to get photos of as many species as I can and just appreciating seeing a new species when I see one on a hike even if I don't get a picture or have a camera with me. Photographing hummingbirds is hard because they're shy, fly fast as fuck, and don't tend to stay in one place for very long. To get a good picture the shutter speed needs to be at 1/600 at the slowest, so it's hard to get the timing right and get them in a location where they're in enough light to allow for fast shutter speeds, and usually by the time I have the camera ready and in focus they're gone.
So on to the bird. There are three hummingbird species on Saba, and I've been trying to see/record the rare one, the Purple Throated Carib. I went looking for one yesterday and nearly shit myself when there were two lurking around on this shady trail I was on just about the minute I got there. I got a few pics, but it was really shady, and the pictures were poor at best. Then I walked over to a sunny area hoping one might come over, and both did. One pretty much chilled for five minutes sitting on different branches sometimes 5 feet away from me just looking at my girlfriend and I seeming to expect to be admired and photographed. Pretty weird but awesome for a birdfag such as myself.
Here's a screenshot of the brightest, most in focus one I could get where the bird's posture allowed it's throat coloration to be seen.

Thanks man, only just saw it, after I posted all the pic's..
It takes 129 film. From a brief google search I found that some people try to mod 127 film to fit, so if you really want to use this camera there are ways, but it will take some research and work.

If you aren't using a huge 300mm+ telephoto lens, then you don't need to worry about a tripod or monopod because you should be physically closer to what you are shooting.
But if you are camped out at a spot that birds frequent and have a huge telephoto lens, you bet your ass that you'll need a way to stabilize the lens if it doesn't have vibration reduction or image stabilization built in. Add a 2X teleconverter, and even depressing the shutter release can cause enough camera shake to ruin the composition of your hand-held shot.
I don't photograph birds, but I know what it's like to shoot at 300mm at f/2.8 with no tripod and no built in vibration reduction with a subject that intermittently moves around at different speeds. Add shooting at a low ISO to retain detail, and it gets really frustrating shooting with a lower than ideal shutter speed.

Do you know about different focusing modes? If not, read up on that. Maybe setting your focus to AF-C instead of AF-S would help you get more shots.

Ignore the left half of the image, pay attention to the bottom right. C means AF-C, or Continuous AF. The D200 will track and keep tracking the subject for as long as you hold the shutter. It will not allow you to focus and then re-compose the shot, the lens will re-focus on whatever the lit up AF point(s) are covering.

I just bought an EPL1. Photos are from a camping trip I took last weekend. Shoddy quality as these are all facebook links, shouldn't matter too much considering the photos themselves aren't too great. Prepare to see a ton of potentially shitty photos in the coming weeks.
