considering how far to the edge of the frame his head is, im not suprised it looks like a balloon. the fact that his face is blurry doesn't help either. the last one looks fine to me, in terms of distortion at least.

and yes, toby knows me too well. the first one was also shot with the 20d and a different lens.

That lens (10-22mm) was made to create a 16mm focal length but without any distortion, but in my opinion it creates a more disturbing distortion than the regular circular fisheye, I'm interested in what Julyknive thinks about that lens, lol.


Haha, well I was about to reply to it untill I saw your post.. but yeah, fisheyes mess up landscapes (and people) so badly sometimes. mine's still brandnew, hardly used.

i would ebay the powershot and move up to a canon rebel or a nikon d50/d70. you will have much more control over the photo.

^^^I like these too. I cant tell if the pool ball is alittle out of focus or just too soft for my likings. I think if it was alittle more crisp it would look very good in contrast to the out of focus background.

Interesting. I disagree. I like the fence stall way better. It's a cleaner picture. The ledge fishbrain pic has that skate and something else at the top of the ledge as well as a busy background that for some reason distracts me from the skating.

Both are nice pics, I just like the stall better.

Mal, you;ve got some pretty neat pics there.. especially the marseille at night, though it would have looked better if you'd decrease the shutterspeed for a bit.. this looks like 10 seconds? try 7 ot 8.
Also the boy on the train.. did you desaturate the colors a bit? apart from that its an amazing picture, i love it!! also nice shot from the bike and "gracht" in amsterdam.. soo dutch ;) though id never want to live there.. ( no offence to piet veerman).. the capouera picture.. i bet you took that on Leidseplein? always nice there..

Yo Mal, you're probably the first photographer with intersting pics i've seen on this forum. You have a great for the documentary value of a place. I'd say make wider and more specific selections with the pictures of the different location and you can make a strong travel series!

You might be surprised at how unsharp some lenses can get, but my guess about that bang lens is that it was the 70-200 2.8... just a guess..

yeah I only had one flash so I had to use a slow shutter speed just to get the stairs to expose properly, but yeah I could have made good use of another flash or even two.

for some reason if that were a clip in an edit i would let it roll and then when he got up there, pause it for a guick second, and have the song cut, or caught at an off beat, and then roll on.

first, at night you need more flashes for sure. you want the whole area lit and the person to be perfectly lit and a lot of them they are dull. with one flash, try using a slower shutterspeed and put the flash right on the person. you will get a little motion blur but the over all picture will turn out better.

I took my cheap digital camera and put on the fireworks setting wile we were haveing a big storm. You cant control the shutter speed, appature, or iso directly but using the sene modes kinda lets you pick and choose approzmately,. but on the fireworks sene thing if gives like a 3second shutterspeed and a high iso.... so yea heres the outcome..

i wanna try to get some with film instead of digital....
during the same storm i attemted at getting a few pics with some black and wite 100 film that i had in my camera and just kinda wanted to use the rest of it up.. so i might have some another...but the film has to have a special process and our camera place only does it like evey 7 to 9 days and i took it the day after the had a big batch of it... so therefore im not shure when i will have themm...

But tommorw there is supose to be another storm.. I dont know how big but i wanna get some with film.. if any turn out i will post em up... its kinda weird with my k1000 though cuz you cant see the light meter at night and you have to use the bulb setting... but im gonna attempt becasue i got some old camera stuff and my grandpa gave me his external light meter thats like 40 years old but works really good... and is really accurate.. then i can figure out about how long to have the shutter open using bulb ( or i think thats what its called im not exactly shure)...
