i'm not glad that this happened, but at least it happened after my wife came back from Poland. i wonder how much money this is going to cost the airlines that service the airports that are affected.

i know what you mean. after the September 11th attacks, air traffic was halted for like a week in the US. it's kinda like not seeing birds in the sky.
I used to live within 20 miles of a nuclear power plant, and when I did see a plane in the air, a low flying single engine plane headed towards the power plant while the suspension was in effect, I freaked out pretty bad. :

I lived in Port Clinton, OH which is about 20 miles as the crow flies over Lake Erie from Davis Bessie nuclear power station: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davis-Besse_Nuclear_Power_Station
The cooling tower added such charm to the horizon and added incentive for tourists to visit the area:

i used to have nightmares about it blowing up and killing everybody within a 50 mile radius
holy shit:
GENEVA, April 16 (AP) - (Kyodo)—The airline industry is losing a "conservative estimate" of $200 million per day in revenues due to disruptions caused by the eruption of an Icelandic volcano, the International Air Transport Association said on Friday.
"In addition to lost revenues, airlines will incur added costs for re- routing of aircraft, care for stranded passengers and stranded aircraft at various ports," it said in a statement.
Airports are closed and flights canceled across large parts of Europe as aviation authorities fear the ashes from the volcano could damage airplane engines.
this could be going on for 6 months or longer
More floods from melting waters are expected as long as the volcano keeps erupting — and in 1821, the same volcano managed to erupt for more than a year.
LOLZ, ICELAND PWNZ U ALL!
