Were you fired or laid-off?, ask for a definition of your termination of employment.. if you were laid-off you are entitled to unemployment benefits in your state, if fired... well, you're on your own.. don't flip out that'll make things worse.. just say you want to know why, you have that right. I was laid-off twice in the past two years by the airlines.. try to get unemployment, its the shiiit.

Yea but that really will not do any good. I mean I do not want to appear hostile, I just want a fucking reason. Personally I think they just do not want to say your "let go"(not fired) so that I will not file for unemployment, but they cannot lie to me and say I was fired when I was not.
why would they not want you to file for unemployment? its not like you filing for unemployment effects them or comes out of their wallet.

How long have you worked there? In Canada and Australia they need to tell you your being laid off, or made redundant, and pay you out for either 2 or 4 weeks pay. If your fired, they must give you a reason that cooinsides with the terms in your initial contract. No one can just fire you with no reason and no payout. Call your labour law or whatever you guys call it and look into it. Here its 3 months probationary, they can let you go for anything, but after that they must pay you out if there is no real reason.

Yea I looked it up, here in Oregon the employer has 24 hours to pay once you are let go. I am no where near as pissed as I was about an hour ago, but still not happy that is for sure. The saying someone mentioned(with different wording/same meaning), when one door closes, another one opens is starting to sound pretty good. Btw, where the fuck is thiz door/
The doors there if you hustle. I was made redundant at my job, and that's even worse in my situation because I have 28 days to get a new one or I get deported from Australia. I built a new portfolio website and started applying like a mad man. After 1 week of applying I had only 1 interview. Got the job, and they're going to sponsor me to stay in Aus. It's a better job, the bosses are young and cool, and it's right by Bondi Beach above a baller mall. So seriously, I'm a firm believer in the fact that majority of the times losing your job can be a blessing in disguise, but only if you work for an upgrade. The secret man, it fucking works!

did you sign a employment contract? i would actually go to a lawyer and talk to them about the specifics how your job and how you were let go. if there was no reason for your firing, you are entitled to some sort of benefit. an employer needs to have a legit reason for firing you, and if they let you go they usually have to pay you for some bit of time. it sounds fishy that they haven't given you a reason even when you have asked.

even if you got fired. you can still file. depending on what they fired you for you might be able to collect. And if you think the reason is BS you can apeal it so you can try to collect.

Well I think it is public, there is no owner, just a board of directors. And yeah I asked so many times (did not lose my cool) why they had to let me go. The only thing Karen(the woman who runs the Arc of Benton County) would say is that if I think about it I will know, BUT I DIDNT DO FUCKING ANYTHING. I was literally early every single day, did not lie about anything on my app, never arrested etc etc. Maybe they won't say anything because if I am under the assumption I am fired then I will not file for unemployment, where as I am totally entitled to it since I was laid off. I don't know, fuck i'm really pissed and want to go hit the bar and get fucked up, but now I have to save all of my fucking money in case I cannot find work for a few months.
But on top of all this, I really liked working there and really liked all of my fellow co-workers. This is unjust tyrannical bullshit.
thats so fucking fishy. Tell them you are going to bring your lawyer into this.

A lot of states have what is called "At Will" employment, which is: any hiring is presumed to be "at will"; that is, the employer is free to discharge individuals "for good cause, or bad cause, or no cause at all," and the employee is equally free to quit, strike, or otherwise cease work, if there was not a union or contract, of course.

I did ask, I talked to the head office and my direct boss. I worked for the Arc of Benton County which is a non-profit helping less fortunate/retarded people. I claimed up and down to both bosses they have to give me a reason, but they just would not do it. I'm not going to get pissed until I have my final check tomorrow

I did not read all of the replies, but FILE FOR UNEMPLOYMENT first and foremost. I lost my job a year ago. I was simply told that I needed to leave the building and that I was being terminated. To this day I've never been given a reason, but I did file for unemployment and I'm still receiving some sort of state compensation. I too was a diligent loyal employee. My position was that directly under the owner's so the only thing I could think of was lack of payroll funds and ego on his part.
Congrats on being unemployed like the rest of us! keep your head up, something better will come along.
