I want to buy a digital SLR camera and start taking some photos! i just want to hear from you all the basics i should have taken into account before i own a camera, for example, what camera what things should i be more geared towards for skating photos, and anything else helpful.

I recomend you buy used...
You can get a DSLR used for cheap now a days. Also, get the nifty fifty (50mm 1.8).
Photography is very expensive, and time consuming.
Practice a while before you make a financial investment.
