I don't know if you've even played the games, but the story was always garbage, without exception. I'm glad to see they're trying to do better.
Why would they use the old storyline? It's been told before, and it really wasn't that good.

Wrong. This is what is called a proof of concept. Its what happens when the director/producers want to take a different direction than the studio. The movie is already being made, and Micheal Jai White (I think that is his name) is the actor for Jax in the movie... My guess is that the studio is slightly afraid of going R with the movie, but also knows that in order to really reboot it, they will have to be true to the source material... but this is WB, and they are the most flip floppy company in the biz.

I don't expect it to be a cinematic masterpiece, I still love the original Mortal Kombat movie and that shit was corny as fuck.
Also, I was completely satisfied with the Silent Hill movie.

There isn't a single Mario Bros. game that has a more involved plot than, "the princess was kidnapped, go jump on stuff and save her".

100% nostalgia. Total crap game. It did NOTHING innovative, and you could beat the whole thing by literally holding the trigger down and aiming wherever you wanted. Aim assist is standard in most FPS games, but you could be a mile off and destroy ten enemies with one magazine every time. Play that shit now and tell me with a straight face you didn't turn it off after five minutes, maybe less. It was a DECENT game for its time, but now it's covered in more dust than Bea Arthur's pussy.
