.mts is the format that comes off avchd cameras right....

in final cut you need to use log and transfer to log the footage and in doing so it can conver to pro res for you.

google it.

Brandon, the simplest way is to get a converter and drag your .MTS files into the program. I use Toast 10 Titanium and I convert the .MTS files to HDV files so I can import them to Final Cut.

Hope that helps.

if you have the latest Final Cut, you can use log and transfer, like JZalutsky said, it will convert the AVCHD files in a HD 16/9 format that can be used in FC. Just plug your camera and lauch file / log and transfer. If you have an older version, or a slow computer and want to edit in dv format, you can use one of the conversion softwares that might not be free but work fine. like this one: http://www.mtsconvertermac.biz/MTS-to-DV-for-Mac.html
mpeg-streamclip doesn't do it, unfortunately
hope that helps.
