Ok, I started rolling in 1996 and stopped for a while at the beginning of 2002 (girls, work, other commitments) started again a year and a half ago....
Been wondering one thing (take the piss if you must).... What the hell is an Illusion spin????? :???:
At first I thought it was when you spin a 360 (for example) one way (clockwise) then as you land, spin again the other way to grind...
Then, Someone told me it is where you spin one direction with your head turned the other direction (how the fuck???)
Anyone help???? Thankola!

You look over one shoulder and spin the other way, making it seem like you are going to spin the opposite way you actually spin. It doesn't count unless you hold you head in the right position for atleast half of the spin.

Broskow does tons of illusions spins to grinds in this edit, watch his head and you'll see it:

Imagine spinning 180 from fakie to forwards.....one way is "short" and you can spot your landing the whole time.
The other way is "long" and you can't spot your landing 'til the very end.....that's illusion.

i do not endorse illusion tricks, tacky ass thing IMO. so hard to judge if its done right, plus imagine how hard explaining the difference between a royale and a farf is to some1 who does not know about blading, now imagine explaining an illusion. "you see his head looked one way but he spun the other, so tech you have to look close". Casual observers would never get that shit.

haha im pretty sure that if you were at a light and told someone to turn their head as far to the right as possible and make a u-turn theyd understand whats hard about that

Tacky? Hard to explain? What? This is the stupidest thing I've read on Be-Mag in a while. Confining our tricks to what the public can easily understand would reduce our sport to frontsides and backflips.

sorry people, but ill never buy into illusions. as soon as the person spins they jerk their head around to look the right awy last second. unless we implement this "slow motion" technology i dont see how you could look at it and be like "yep proper illusion" while saying another he turned his head too fast. just a lame trick. it would also be very hard to go up to a trick with a blind fold them remove right before u jumped on, but we havent restored to that have we?
dude just quit while you're behind

This. That was a really stupid, ignorant and opinionated post.

Anyway, I support illusion tricks fully because they are really hard to use well. Bkow's illusion full true soul still makes my head explode.

just saying, doing shit to make it hard for no other reason then because is dumb, lets all roll on 1 foot before each trick, it will be really cool esp if u have on flannel, VX's and valos. dont forget not to shave for a 2 months .

People do it because it's new. If your argument is against people doing things solely for the difficulty then we should (in addition to 540s) stop doing topside tricks because they are harder than souls. We should stop doing acids because they are harder than souls. We should stop doing royales because they are harder than frontsides.
See where I'm going this? It's all about trick progression, my friend.

We should stop rollerblading because it's harder than actually being productive in life.

Illusions are not new, there hasn't been a new rollerblading trick since Tom Fry stopped crossing the pond.

Seriously wtf are you talking about. I think you confused yourself, man. Your taking this on like illusions are a hipster movement, when its actually a well established trick. It's been done for years, and they are done in comps all the time.
Chances are you can't do them anyways.

What? No fucking way
this kid we named Blade-off Hitler just started blading. hes 11 years old and we tried explaining illusions to him when he asked. now he can "illusion forward 180" haha. he just skates forward then kinda looks awkwardly over his shoulder and and does a starfish 180 haha. so fucking raw!

This is why people get pissed off that I make you a judge for the pow-wow. Then I have to explain you are there b/c you understand what you are looking at but you are just out touch enough to speak for the general public. You are the "general public" judge.

i understand illusions, i just think they r dumb and not worth doing. like i said, i compare it to rolling on 1 foot before u grind, yes it makes it harder but who cares. also its so hard to tell if some1 did an illusion correctly, the whip around of the head is so hard to see and so fast, then if some does it right before they jump, or if they r mid spin, its just too hard to tell in real time if it was done to its upmost potential.

Yeah.....on vert too.
Greg.. when someone rolls up to a trick looking like they're gonna spin left, and they spin right instead.. it makes heads go....
http://www.skirtfulloffire.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/ScannersExplodingHead.gif
It's very noticeable. The first time I saw one.. Louie Z in an X-Trials or Asa comp, I remember thinking.. WHOA THAT FAKIE THREE WAS CRAZY AND IM NOT SURE WHY! Then I watched it again later and figured out the method to the magic.

But why do something harder and more technical? That's just stupid. What's the point of doing AO soul grinds when you can just soul grind going forward.

Hahah fuck yes.
Broskow's are very noticable, just watch his Drip Drop Section, he does and illusion spin everytime...EVEN ON ZERO SPINS O_O lol jk

i kinda get the feeling that this greg guy just simply can't do them, so he chooses the other option: get as many people to rally against the amazing illusion spin so he doesn't have to feel like such an idiot. It's ok greg, you'll figure it out....one of these days......maybe. and that's a BIG maybe.

sometimes. just to grinds though. To do them as just a spin i have to spin switch. So if i were to do it my naturally spin way i'd have to look over my akward shoulder. It's cool though because it gives me something to work on.
some things come easier than other things for everyone. there are so many different aspects to rollerblading that i find it quite useless and annoying to talk shit on any one of them. If there is something that you don't like, then learn how to do it your own way instead of sending out a witch hunt. It's way more useful that way and will make you love rollerblading that much more.

i dont skate any more, doing tricks is nothing i care about. i'm much more concerned with making good beer in my house. i just feel strongly about illusions sucking. i still observe skating and enjoy the culture and my friends in it. i also enjoy skate videos and comps, and seeing illusions is not something i want to see. people can do them all day, ill just dislike them and find them pretty useless. some people dislike certain tricks for w/e reasons, this is the 1 of those tricks for me. the other is "triangle grabs", its called stale and please stop thinking its the only grab in rollerblading kids.

SO what he is saying is: His Opinion represents that of "unskilled ignorance", so it's pointless to even respond to or acknowledge his opinion like it means anything other that to show what tools and posers might think about something.
Seriously, look at this dudes sig then visualize his useless ass on rollerblades. If you can't accomplish a trick than how do become an authority on whether or not it is worthwhile to learn?
I think Illusions are super badass, what's a more awesome step in your progression than to not have to look at the obstacle you are skating?
