View Full Version : Good glass for Nikons..
In the ~$300 range?
I want something fast and sharp, and usually that means $1000+.
I have the standard 50mm 1.8 but I want to add more. What do you guys think?

you could get a 28 mm 2.8 for like 325? I'll sell you mine
nikon af-s 35mm 1.8 sells for about $200 new
Word Drew, I'll keep that in mind. Any thing else?

Which body do you have? Does it have an AF motor? Do you care about having/not having AF? Do you have any certain type of focal length/look you're looking to get, or are you just hot to buy a new toy?
I have a D200. I was looking at the 10-20, but then I was thinking I probably want something longer
I want something fast and sharp, but I know that means I'm going out of my price range

Im using the d80 for photos and also curious about some new lens's. I have 28-80 Nikon AF and Nikkor-S 1:1.4 50mm fixed lens. What would be a good lens for long shots?

From my 35 1.8 on a d70s:

Sharp and lightweight but if I had more to spend, I might've chosen something a little better.

try maybe looking into manual focus lenses
Yeah, I was thinking manual as kind of a last resort. I really like the AF system in the D200

Unless the II is vastly improved, I have heard literally nothing good about this lens, other than the convenience of its focal range. It's soft at both ends, lots of CA, focusing is slow, etc. I would reconsider if I were you.

thats a pretty sick photo drew. if you gave the right side of the frame just a taddd bit more space it'd been perfect.

Best Nikkor lense ever is the 80-200 2.8 . I will never ever not have this lense in my bag at all times.

For 300 bucks you can get a used 85 1.8 off cl or ebay I did, or 35f/2 i paid 235 on ebay.
Drew I must agree 80-200 2.8 is a great lens with an Sb-800
I used an 85 1.4 with no flash and i was really pleased with the results, might be my next investment

Hahaha yes, covered some swimmers in training a few months back, 400mm 2.8 plus a D3 or D3s cant remember but you could zoom into the back of their mouths and all the detail was still there; insane glassware.

that is so awesome
I was debating buying this lens cause I know Uconn was looking for a sports photographer, but you could literally buy a car for the price of it. 8,899.95 for a lens makes me want to vomit on a group of small children.
two favorite wide range lens for nikon.
Nikon 14mm f/2.8D ED AF
Zeiss ZF.2 35mm f/2
Havent tried this but it sounds good
Nikon 24mm f/1.4G ED
