Post your work : Portfolio/Website

Hey, so I just finished my online portfolio and thought I'd like some constructive criticism from my creative peers and saw that be-maggers have some great work as well but hard to find.

So if you have a website, portfolio, flickr, tumblr, livejournal etc where you showcase your work and creative outlet and you'd like to post it for others to see and follow then do so! If just for more views and clicks then go for it!

Maybe even questions about websites you could use for free or cheap! I use carbon made and it has a really professional feel but limited to only 35 images. Otherwise you can pay 12 bucks a year for 500 image hosting but that's a bit overkill.

Chris Cheshire had a pretty good portfolio I saw a while back and I'd love to see it again. Can anyone post it?

The website is good and displays your portfolio perfectly fine but there are steps you may want to take to appear more "professional" if that's the right term. Im making these suggestions based on the fact you might be using this to find professional work.

Domain name: www.davengo.com , www.dave-ngo.com, www.davengophoto.com > www.davengo.carbonmade.com

E-mail: onehundrendpandas@gmail isnt the most professional e-mail address to have, even [email protected] is a step up, even better would be [email protected], [email protected] etc.

"When shooting people I leave my light work up to chance" I wouldn't include this in my bio personally for the reason alot of people employ you based on your portfolio (which should maintain some consistency which your portrait section does well) and saying you leave it up to chance with a paying client sounds abit reckless and wont encourage people to employ you. Too much honesty doesnt always work in your favour. I remember being in the car to an ad job and asking the photographer what he thinks his lighting set-up or even feel for the ad was and his response "Not a fucking clue, I dont think about it until I show up".

Also alot of people do their artist statement/about in 3rd person, something you may want to consider although you do feel very pretentious writing about yourself in 3rd person.

Your portrait section is scroll down whereas your Blythe and advertising sections you have to click left to right, first time I went onto your blythe and ad pages i thought that was it as I couldnt scroll down.

Wow, thanks nb! Everything you have mentioned were things I was on the fence about anyway and your input really helped. Im gonna revise most of it and I know my bio is really pretentious but it's funny that way.

Totally right about the whole light thing and the example of what that photographer said cause that's the goddamn truth for most of us. I forgot to change my default picture of me that was supposed to be funny when I first made it I just threw it up there as a sample.

Great work jeff, very excited to see all this stuff. I didn't know you were that skilled.

Thanks Dave, been working hard lately to get better and try different things. Seems to be helping.

Chris, It's much simpler and easier to figure out than some of your old sites. My one issue with this one is that it opens a new window when you click the link. I get annoyed when I have a bunch of browser windows open. Other than that, pretty solid. Some might say it's a bit messy, but it works for me.

I think I had a seizure attempting to navigate your site. I think anyone who would visit your site to view commercial or even personal work would navigate away frustrated.
