seing chris edwards name over latimer is pissing me off
Chris edwards invented grinding on inline skates. He started (created)aggressive skating in like 1988.
He Had THE FIRST EVER pro skate. Not many Rollerbladers will ever be as good at vert as he was/is and the vert skaters
that where better then him couldn't Hang with him on street. We get good by copying shit we see on videos. He just busted the shit out of nowhere(blah blah I know he emulated boarding blah who cares).......
seing chris edwards name over latimer is pissing me off
why? no doubt DL should be on the list but chris started this shit. Up until a few years ago edwards would land the biggest shit in any given park. Walk in, stretch, try the biggest stunt possible, land it and retreat back to what ever vehicle he came in.
EDIT: Edwards wasn't a beast, he was THE BEAST.

Missing Roadhouse and Julio. Not sure this list can exist without those two.
Also, Farmer over Aragon, IMO.

I kinda despise aragon myself... I always have, But I gotta give him props. In raw skill and consistency its between him and haffey.
but there is no originality. He just watches what other people do and 1UP's them lol
Farmer, julio and roadhouse never seemed to me like they really fucking go nuts during contests and do crazy ass stunts.
Skaters like haffey, broskow and feinberg have the same creativity and street style but then on top of that KILL competitions

I assume your era is the last 5 years, right? Even so, the last five years, you cannot put Jeph Howard and Marc Moreno in that list (depite being great bladers) when you have left off Haffey, Aragon, Shima, Montre, Jon Jon and Franky. Even in the last five years Dom Sagona has popped up numerous times and killed everyone.
PROBABLY WOULD PUT FEINBERG AT THE TOP OF A GREATEST OF ALL TIME LIST.

You are killing me. You may not love his blading, but nothing he does is standard. Those 720 grinds he did first were not standard. That mega-ramp double backflip thing wasn't standard. His drip drop and Vlux profiles were nothing short of top-level blading, with tricks in there no-one else would do.

Haffey's style is soooo solid and perfect that some people don't like it because those insane tricks don't even look hard when he does them. I like to see some fall clips in Haffey sections just to show that hes human and that he actually has to try.

Interesting that you say haffey doesn't think "outside the box" when most of his shit is beyond comprehension for even his peers.
Elliot Stevens is a good blader, but to put him on a level with even half the other people in your top ten is ludicrous. He's above average, but no where near pro level and he's hardly legitigimised his status in blading with any big video parts or hugely popular online edits.

That looked like a royale.. and he isn't pro because his skating is average and nobody knows who he is. People throw around this "_______ for pro" shit so much now. This dude has some cool tricks but really that's not even flow or am level skating let alone pro.

just sayin'.

fucccking hell that nass edit was sick. Every other edit I'd seen was just mad euro chucking - it's sick seeing guys like elliot and tuffnell balancing it out. Elliot's a rad skater, he gets around to a lot of uk events and, personally, from seeing him skate against other big names, I'd say he has a lot of potential to get further with his blading.
Ramelle Knight would deff be in the top 5...

you can't have a top 10 list... it just isn't practical, with the LACK of documentation being kept up with rollerblading past it's not like it matters anyway. yea whats his name was great then, or whoever is fucking amazing now, but the only thing records wise available to people, are the videos that are online. and that is only for the time being until whatever site goes away and so do the videos. why is there nothing that i can go to and see who won what competition when?

like someone before me previously stated, this is a never ending debate built on individuals preferences, that being said Elliot Steven's couldn't make it onto the top ten list, he's not even the best skater from his area !
like Mr Bond said, not hating on him he's just not top 10 category.
Personally though i'm a bit sad not to see a mention of Abdiel yet though.
Muppet4Eternity obviously doesn't understand the difference between "Top 10 of all time" and "favorite top 10".
There are really loads of great skaters out there, but in my opinion, some of the people who really pushed the rollerblading industry and made it what it is today are
Haffey
Sagona
Fish
Brian (aragon/shima),
Farmer
Arlo
Broskow
Fabio Enes
and many others.

By no means is this list definitive and really putting all of rollerblading's greatness into a list of 10 people just doesn't work. There are so many people who belong on this list that just don't fit (Fish, Walt Austin, Dem, Dre, SK).

lame thread is lame.
you can't do a top 10 of all time list because it's going to be totally skewed.
of course Arlo and Roadhouse are top 10 bladers of all time, but there are people nowadays that would murk the shit out of arlo, roadhouse, petty, sagona (yea, i said it), latimer, etc. who don't show up on any kind of all time top 10 list. what i mean is this, Jon bolino could destroy arlo and petty and sagona at skating, but arlo/petty/sagona would be on a top 10 all time list, and jon jon probably wouldn't be found on the same list, even though the others can't do a single trick that jon wouldn't be able to match.
the skill level of some of today's bladers is outrageous. a real top ten list would just be like: haffey, aragon, farmer, mcleod, broskow, bolino, feinberg, eisler, etc.
"normal" top 10 lists are like the ones with arlo, julio, roadhouse, feinberg, salerno, shima, sagona, etc. - all of whom would be crushed at blading by the actual "best" rollerbladers there are.

4. Alex Broskow
5. CJ Wellsmore
6. David Sizemore (540 Kindgrind urvry-day B)

You can watch so much Feinberg footage online if you make an effort.
NO EXCUSES
The only skaters that you really can't know much about are those whose footage was mostly on videos that no one has bothered to upload.

Dberg, go to your browser and type in "www.youtube.com".
Type "Aaron feinberg" into the search bar on Youtube.
Watch every video on that site of Feinberg. Pay close attention to the sections from Words, BFG and anything where he is riding salomons.
Re-write your list without Sizemore in it. Replace with Feinberg. Re-order to put Feinberg at #1.
JOB DONE.

Shima
DL changed the game.
Jon Elliott changed the game.
Chris Farmer changed the game.
Dunkle had a solid influence too, in my opinion. One of the very best in terms of imagination/spot selection.
Feinberg because of Words. Hero status.
Haffey, bro.
Jon Julio for innovation and crazy longevity.
I am too inexperienced to appreciate many bladers previous to these dudes, so I can't really add much on. There's a lot of other "favourite bladers" but I guess that's different.
But yes this is a silly thread.

Edwards dominated his era more than anyone has dominated theirs.....Joe Louis don't need to knock Ali or Tyson out to be a better boxer than both.

My list was based on how people look at skating, not talent/influence. Hence no Aragon, Haffey etc. But there's just too many factors to decide who are actually the best.

1. Aaron Feinberg (Haffey... before Haffey.)
2. Chris Haffey... Goes bigger than you and can do just about any trick you can. See Disaster Fakie 7 KG when fakie 3 kg was hot shit... and honestly im not even going to list his historic stunts.
3. Alex Broskow (if you include just old broskow or just new broskow he isnt this high on my list but the fact that he is still amazing after a complete change in his skating puts him up here.)
4. Dustin Latimer
5. Brian Aragon. I'm not a fan of his skating really, but he is too good to not be top 5... and he is smoother than a baby's bum.
6. Chris Farmer (Watch Through The Looking Glass and you'll understand.)
7. Ian Mcleod (Can do everthing Haffey can do.. but not on as big an obstacle.)
8. Richie Eisler (Everything switch and natural and no matter how hard the trick is the landing is perfect. BEST landings of all time.)
9. Brian Shima
10. Josh Petty

John Bolino will go down as one of the best ever by the time he is done... as in he will be Top 3 skill wise.
I'm not making a list, just putting 10 people out there.
Franky Morales, Brian Aragon, Chris Haffey, Brian Shima, Dustin Latimer, Chris Farmer, Dominic Sagona, Colin Kelso/Sean Kelso, Alex Broskow, Jon Julio
... that's eleven people.

"Best" lists really kind of bug me. Like on drums, I'm a huge Bonham fan. I know he's not the best in terms of technical skill, but he's way more interesting to watch/listen to.
So my top 10 FAVORITE rollerbladers would be:
Brian Shima
Jeff Stockwell
Chris Haffey
Erik Bailey
Joey Chase
Alex Broskow
Mike Johnson
Julian Bah
Brian Aragon
Jon Elliot

With how much this sport has evolved since Edwards time, your analogy sucks. The tricks and overall talent in the present day is ridiculous. It's like comparing Joe Louis and Chuck Liddell. I'm not knocking Edwards one bit. The man created rollerblading. All I'm saying is Haffey, Aragon, Broskow, etc. Amyone in my top 10 for skill would take him. BUT no one can touch him when it comes to influencing the sport. With everything he has done he should probably take up the first 5 slots in my Influence top 10 by himself.

Could Haffey do what he does on Lightnings with zero sole and flat Hyper 72s?
This ties into my point about new tricks.....Edwards had to make that shit happen when no one imagined it was possible. When a skater today adds 1/2 a spin onto a trick that's been done by thousands of skaters for more than a decade, it's not the same as imagining a new trick and being the one to make it work.
You can't judge skaters from that era from the perspective of this one, you can only judge them against their contemporaries.....and no one since has dominated their peers to the extent that Edwards did.

Chris is an amazing skater, but I just get bored watching him, it's just too standard. That's why he's not on my list.

haffey can't do what he does NOW with Lightnings and flat 72mm's, but he could do everything edwards did back in the day with the same skates (including the airs). could edwards do ANYTHING haffey does, even if he had the best equipment and high level of peers? who knows... i'd bet not, because none of haffey's peers can do it, either.
no one since has dominated their peers to the extent that Edwards did.

I've already said that I don't consider Edwards better than Haffey, but saying that Haffey could do everything Edwards did is pure speculation.....because he hasn't.
And because he wouldn't be inventing it.

so i've been around since... VG14 at the earliest. and i stopped a few years in high school.
-the Yasutokos. They only get one spot.
-Feinberg. Rollerblading machine. Undeniable greatness.
-Shima. Definition of quality longevity.
-Haffey. VG 20 and the years afterwards, he was defining the game. Although he is still at the top i just don't feel like he is having the impact that he had in those years, but his impact back then was so huge that he is automatically on any top 10 list.
-Farmer. his technical game is unmatched, throughout his entire career. jon jon might carry on the torch in this respect. they both became famous for their technical skating and that is where they excel and attain greatness.
-I lied. Farmer's technicality has been matched by another person, and he is the most under-the-radar skater of all time. Iain Mcleod. Next level technicality. Technicality to the point where his tricks are so fucking technical that they render every obstacle that he skates dangerous, obstacles that otherwise might not be particularly dangerous (life threatening dangerous if I were to attempt them) Everyone is always one step behind what he is doing.
-Latimer. He really ended his career with a bang, steadily built himself up and retired on top.
-Broskow. his entire fucking career he's been floating near or at the top because he has achieved that mindblowing mix of hammers and technicality
-Zamora. he was the embodiment of style, and a constant reminder of the role that style plays in rollerblading
-Sagona for the same reasons as Zamora
I can't really rate them. I could rate them if it was based on criteria, like technicality or style or dangerousness. But it is subjective to give priority to technicality over danger, or style over technicality, so I will stop right here.
One interesting thing to notice. Some people are great purely because of technicality, like farmer and mcleod, zamora and sagona because of style. Mcleod (spelling) is a good example because he would never make a top ten list based purely on style. But others are great because they achieved a balance between all the different factors: style, technicality, danger; like haffey, broskow, feinberg, latimer
creativity is a factor that others might consider the most defining aspect of greatness
what we should really do are four different all time great threads:
1)style
2) hammer
3)technicality
4)creativity
god, you could even do
5) image
which is super important although nobody wants to admit it
