Skatetek was the website where you could upload blade edits for free, I think it had other stuff going on but the whole free upload thing was the only reason I went there. That dude who ran it called himself Meatball or something and I think he got in lots of legal trouble cause he was using the Skatetek server to steal credit card information or something?
Why/how did it ruin your childhood?

I don't think it turned into Rolling Edits but I think Tim Parker may have been involved with running skatetek or something and then he started RE when Skatetek died.

rollingedits turned off public uploading - only allowing registered users to upload video. cheap rollerbladers couldn't pay the $10 registration free and then skatetek was born

That sounds more on point then my previous statement.

that dude should update rollingvideos.com its been the same for like 2 years.
I spent about 5 years of my youth on RollingEdits. Loved that site. If you go to skatetek.net right now the banner for site is "aggressive skates free credit report at skatetek.net," which supports Rickay's claim

I swear I remember the dude on here complaining and throwing a fit swearing that he didn't do anything and it was bullshit that he was under investigation.. His username was like "meatball xx" or something like that.

Someone on the website's server was doing sketchy credit shit. It wasn't meatball, but he was worried they were going to take his computer. The website went down when the host became under investigation.
I was an admin. No big deal.

rollingedits.com started, and let kids upload pictures and video for free, and had a forum
eventually, they had to start charging for registration, and limiting who could watch and upload what
people didn't really buy into it, and then webhosting got really cheap, so meatball started skatetek
skatetek let you do everything the old rollingedits did
skatetek did some real jank shit(fraud?) that one would expect from a site ran by a 12 year old shithead (mrmeatballx) and got shut down.
rollingedits never really made a comeback after the skatetek blow, and TiM took over
i'm surprised nothing like rollingvideos exists today, with links to youtube versions of the songs...

I know this is an old thread but I really dont care.
Skatetek came about when I was like 12 or 13 cause I loved technology and rolling, so thus the name. Once RE started charging for uploading and youtube or vimeo werent popular yet, I started letting people host videos on the site. Next thing you know, I was getting 50,000+ unique hits per day which eventually rose to 200k+. Some french fucker decided to abuse a security hole in my uploader which helped him upload and secure a script which stole peoples credit card information. Several hundred thousands of dollars in credit card fraud and a few visits from the FBI later, it was all done.
End.
