Engadget's live blog of the Verizon iPhone event (http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/11/live-from-verizons-iphone-event/)

Announced tomorrow, available before Valentines Day.

Anyone interested/going to pick one up?

If it has LTE, I think I'm bout it.

it's still an iphone

If the newest lines of Android phones didn't bore the shit out of me, then I wouldn't even be remotely interested.

Yeah, its an iPhone but the huge developer support it has is the only thing that makes me want to go back.

All it needs is a good GPS app or better/Android equivalent Google Maps.

won't be LTE.

You're probably right, but I almost feel like Verizon wouldn't let them create one that was not since that is their huge push with smartphones right now after CES.

If this is just a CDMA iPhone 4, then I am almost sure the iPhone 5 will be CDMA/LTE compatible.

I will probably be getting one, I am due for an upgrade and I definitely intend to step up to a smart phone. Also, I hate every android phone available with Verizon right now. I love the Android OS I just don't like the selection of smart phones currently available on the market.

I'm due for an upgrade too, as of december. My droid is getting super sluggish compared to the newer android phones, idk if I want to just get whatever verizon calls the Evo or if i want to pick up a new iphone when it comes out :( :(

UnknownPleasures

IMO, the Incredible is the best Android phone Verizon has.

Was when it first came out and still is. Best screen and camera of any phone they got.

This will change with the iPhone however. The camera is amazing.

So only one company has had complete monopoly on iphones in the states? That's pretty fucking shitty. You can get an iphone at pretty much every single mobile phone provider over here, there's like 7 or 8 of them.

This new iphone supposed to be different than the iphone 4? I love mine, seriously I don't see how anyone could not like the iphone.

Ozzie Sandoval
10.01.2011, 20:17
For 5 years I have been with AT&T not once did getting an iPhone cross my mind.
So many better android phones. Plus the support and developers behind android is HUGE.

However I will give the iPhone 1 thing... quality, the metal on the side and the build quality is really well made.
However, I will not trade my Galaxy S for it.

AT&T has had an exclusive contract with Apple since the first iphone was released, even though Verizon is the largest (and best imo) provider in the nation.

Not really...

Software and software feautre wise, yes.

There still isn't a phone (on the market) that has a more powerful CPU and GPU (performance wise) set than the iPhone 4.

The Galaxy S line comes close, but TouchWiz fucked that all up.

What are you talking about both the Galaxy S and the Iphone 4 use a4 and a8processor. They are the same exact thing. They are both modified a8's, CPU are the same. The difference is the GPU, and in this case Galaxy S and iPhone both have intergreated GPU's (from what I know of, don't know much about the Iphone). However they are not disclosed as far as I know. I have seen benchmarks for the galaxy S but none for the iPhone.

Now if we talk about the Nexus S, it has it's own deticated GPU, and that is something else.

Basically they both have licenses to use ARM. Which means they both overclock/ implement ideas to gain more power. They are the same chip, a modified a8.

touchwizz is just an interface. I personally like it, however I have rooted my phone and can flash it if need be to gingerbread. Just like the iPhone can be broken into to use facetime away from wifi.

I knowz all of this.

What I was saying is, out of the box, the GS series is a lag fest. Not so much after you root/flash a rom.

Believe me, I have many hours logged on XDA. First was with a Vibrant, now with a DInc.

Ozzie Sandoval
10.01.2011, 20:55
lag fest?
I have a rooted captivate
and a none rooted captivate
the non-rooted is my daily driver, I have not expereinced any lag.

And if you knew all of this why did you state the faster cpu when it is not so?

*edit, I hate apple, but I do want to see the iPhone come to verizon. I want to see what it will do. Better service, Better data plan (besides grandfathered). However, the CMDA thing is a let down, I prefer GSM. Also the LTE would be great to have on any phone.

UnknownPleasures
10.01.2011, 21:03
I said faster "performance" wise, not spec wise.

The "lag fest" is because Samsung used a proprietary file extension/partition (their own) that is different than the native Android one.

Google (insert captivate, vibrant, fascinate name here) lag fix and you'll know what I mean.

Ozzie Sandoval
10.01.2011, 21:08
yeah, I remember that. Not everyone is perfect, hence the iPhone's antenna.
However, Enough of the android vs iPhone (that's all there is on engadget's comments)

Computers and cell phones just happen to be something I research more than others.

True. You have to stop one before using the other. However, I heard Verizon will try to go GSM soon becuase of this, also their 4g is about the same speed as AT&T 3g, from what I read. However, it gives people more choice.

but you have to ask yourself, how often do you need to use the internet during a phone call?
I think people will be fine sacrificing that feature if it means better 3G coverage

No way.

AT&T 3G tops out around 4-5Mbps, Verizon LTE is getting between 10-20Mbps right now.

Verizon is not going GSM, its transferring to LTE which will be LTE data and CDMA voice for now, then transfer to be both. So when the next iPhone is announced, I am willing to bet it will be LTE capable which means you can do voice+data as long as you're on a LTE connection.

When I meant speed I wasn't thinking of network adapter/ modem/ computer speed. I forgot where I read the GSM thing. I was referring more to cell phone data plans. I agree though LTE would be great. 10/4 download upload is very good, considering you are on the road. At work I get 10/1.

For wireless I just use airsniff to get a wifi passcode, even if your wifi is protected ;)

If memory serves me it just kicks you off the internet if you get a call. Might have to double-check that

It will boot your internet connection when you get a call.

It will never block you from getting calls.

When you get SMS/E-mail when on a call, it will come in automatically when you end a call.

Also, you can run any app when on a call for the most part, it just won't be able to access the internet.

This is the case for ANY PHONE ON SPRINT/VERIZON/METRO PCS.

Or you could just go month to month with t mobile. I had sprint like this for a year after my two year contract was up. Just plan it so you cancel your plan right before the end of a billing cycle cause they'll still make you pay for a whole month if your only two days into a new cycle when you cancel.

youre using their network to go to the website. Just like a computer does. How heavy the web page is will decide how much MB you stock up on. For instance. google is very plain, so you wont have to get much info. on the other hand yahoo has flash, tons of photos, etc. you are using their network (data) to gather all that info.

It's just like downloading.
there are apps out there that measure your MB's, however I have yet to use any.

Running an APP does not always access the Internet. You can't use the INTERNET on a call, you can still use an app.

If I want to play Angry Birds while I'm on the phone, I can.

Also, you can use data while on a call if you are on WiFi.
