ummm... by regular please tell me what you mean exactly, could be a sony handycam with 480i(lulz) But I personally would prefer a DSLR due to the fact that I can shoot video, and once I'm done filming I can shoot some pics too. And it's cost efficient.

But... A Regular camera would be better to film because the DSLR has rolling shutter from the CMOS sensor. So any 3CCD(lots o' $$$HVX200a) would do nicely.

It really depends on what you're doing with it and how much you intend on spending.

DSLRs are great for still/dolly and fisheye shots. They can film great at night. It depends on the lenses you choose to buy, but you can get a really high depth of field. You won't be able to zoom much at all though.

Regular cameras are all-around good. They're much easier to handle and you can control zooming easily. They can't film nearly as well at night though.

Like he said, if you are planning on getting a handycam style, I would go with the DSLR. I don't know how you film, but I'd say DSLR unless you plan on going for an HVX. Also, research your camera/lenses before you buy them. A T2i films the same quality video as a 7d.

or a combination.

i.e. a Film camera with a big sensor and interchangeable lens mounts.

I currently film with an Panny AF100 and i'm really happy with it.
(except the 8bit HDSDI out which was a big letdown)

honestly it depends on your filming style and your budget. i have a 60d now, but id love to have a HVX/extreme set up.
