LOL, wow what a savings. Wouldnt you just get the carbon at that price? You can't just make a skate and call it "price-point" for fun and then charge whatever you feel like..

If you want a "price-point" skate from USD, just buy thrones.

I think the concept started as a cheaper version of the carbons but then they realized that they put almost the same amount of effort and the production cost is not much lower so they had to place it at this price.

$350 for a complete skate is still a significantly lower price compared to the cost of Carbon 2's (which cost the same for just the boot). don't think The Conference ever said that they would be "price point" skates. That was just speculation by you kids.If I remember correctly, they were always referred to as a cheaper alternative to the Carbon 2's, which they are. However, I agree with the people who think that if you're going to spend that much on skates, you miight as well save a little extra and get the Carbons instead.

spaniard
19.04.2011, 05:30
Gonzalo speaketh the truth. No-one ever said they were price-points, they are a different concept very similar to Carbons, kind of like a carbon plastic hybrid or a re-booted Deshi. They feel good. They fit small. I personally haven't tried Carbons (I would love to) but I think Gonzalo's whole post was well put.

Hey Oli. Remember back when the Carbon 2's were new and a bunch of people and I pestered you to post the exact measurements of each size? Then tried getting you to post the width or footbed shape. Now you say the Imperials fit small yet that means abso-fucking-lutely nothing with out some numbers behind it. Give us something man. We're trying to get skates that fit right and USD isn't doing shit to help.

Taken from Usd-skate.com

The Carbon is a dream skate for many skaters, yet it is also a high class product made of the most expensive materials used on an aggressive skate.

With the desire to make this new skate available to a lower budget we took the time to talk to companies about making special plastic blends that could serve to re-create the Carbon effect at a more affordable price.
After two meetings with DuPont we were told that they had the perfect plastic for us:

I think that the low price is how you are trying to market the skate. They are only $50 less than a complete carbon II setup on rw and amall, not sold.

Nowhere in that quote you posted it says the skates are going to be cheap or low priced. It says they are going to be for skaters in a "lower budget" and that they'll be "more affordable". And they are both of those things. You (and everybody else) made up how much cheaper "more affordable" means on your own.

RollerBatioNation
19.04.2011, 18:47
The phrases "more affordable" and "lower budget" usually only mean that it will be more affordable to people on a lower budget, and 350 is not a low budget. Period.

Lower =/= low. You're pissed off because you made unwarranted assumptions but that's not USD's fault. Period.

Also, this doesn't bother me at all because I have zero interest in the Imperials to begin with.

Adjusted for the exchange rate, Australia has about the same average income as the US. Your Minimum wage is $15/hr and in the US it is $7.25. At a minimum wage job you have to work 25 hours to afford Aragon 4s. Americans have to work 41 hours to get the same.

Prices, of ANY skate, would not be an issue if you were getting what you paid for. $350 for a great skate is always going to be reasonable. I'm sure that all of you commenting on the high price wouldn't care if you thought the skate was worth it.

THUS, let's argue about whether the skate sucks or not, and not how much it costs. I am very skeptical, because all skates pretty much suck, but I have high hopes! The new material is interesting and the higher cuff suits my desires. I always hate skates that supronate (right?), get floppy, or don't have enough padding in the liners to alleviate buckle/cuff/shell pain.

$350 for a complete skate is a pretty solid deal. Most boot only models right now are $300+. Then you need to buy wheels and frames. Frames are going to cost you on average about $40 and an anti-rocker setup will cost about $35....and that's on the "cheap" side of things. Anymore a quality frame set will run you $60-$80. So, essentially, one is saving $75-$100 by going with a complete Imperial setup.

That is assuming that one is interested in a soft boot produced by USD. If you don't like this price....don't buy the fucking skate. Easy as that.

RollerBatioNation
20.04.2011, 00:26

If USD really wanted to make a baller ass skate they should just carbonize the ufs throne mold and make them fit a little wider like valo lights did.

It's not some great deal. To put together the complete that aggressivemall is offering for for $349 piece by piece it comes out to $356. One of the good things about our industry is that custom skates aren't really more expensive then complete skates.

I don't understand why you're complaining. I checked the AUD's currency rate and the average wage. Live in the states and work the "Minimum" from your area and then talk about how easy you would have it in the United States. Things are slightly more expensive in Australia but on average, you get paid WAY more for the same work over here in the states. Stop it. I don't go to the gay bars and kick the cocks out of your mouth.

I personally wouldn't skate them because of looks but I think they are the skate the Carbon always wanted to be: a light, yet strong one piece construction with both good support and decent flex.

I never agreed on the use of carbon fiber in an aggressive skate. They had to shoehorn an external cuff on it to make it work. As amazing as the skate works that way it is still a fail in terms of what they wanted to achieve with the Deshi Carbon in the first place.

All in all I am really happy what USD is doing with these skates. Both are undeniably far superior to any other skate on the market right now.

I'm seeing a common reply here that I'm whining about the high price...that is not the case. I can afford whatever skates I want, and in fact I have no interest in the imperials..
I am merely pointing out that a tiny price gap like $50 between your "elite" and "budget friendly" skate isn't that great of a price break. I don't see the point, and if anything I'm bitching on the behalf of people who may actually be on a budget.
Since this price friendly skate obviously costs almost as much to produce as the carbon, it seems like their effort would be better spent developing a super high quality product for USD hardboot fans. Like maybe a carbon shelled ufs throne...

They are Deshi sizing minus 1. So if you have tried a size 9 Deshi Carbon you need a USD Carbon 2 size 8.

really?... i tried on classics and ufs in the same store and found the 1 to be much narrower, cant remember which...??... different liner issue maybe...

now i'm real confused, just measured my foot with a ruler and got 26.1cm.
my salomons are marked as 43 1/3 and the inner soul is 26.7

shit...
doesn't help at all, looks like a trip to the shoe store for proper measuring equipment is in order...
in the mean time, if the width measurements do show up let a brother know?
