Made some 3-piece soulplates for my UFS thrones today...

People ask me all the time what I'm gonna do when I run out of 3-piece souls. Well, I still have about four new sets in a box under my bed (and many, MANY sets of backslide plates)... but I've had this little idea brewing for a while now... so I finally went ahead and made it happen today.

Started off with a set of these (NOTE: How much bulkier the rear plate is than the front plate):

I more or less chopped the backslide portion off the rear soulplate to the dimension of a standard 3-piece heel plate, did some trimming and sanding, and BOOM. The front plate and 3-piece backslide plate were untouched.

NOTE: The front and rear soulplates are completely flat... ideal for cess slides, various grinds, etc.

They're not perfect, but I was kinda figuring it out as I went. The next time I do it, the rear plate will have an equal height all the way across (thicker than the front, which will probably have a similar look to the classic 5050 juice plates) as opposed to the slant that's there now. I'll be testing them out tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure they're gonna perform identical to the original 3-piece.

Oh, and it's hard to tell in these pics, but I had the privilege of breaking in a pair of fresh CO's today. Best ever...

If you're not too much into the backslide having a different color than your souls I'm sure you could sand/cut the rear part to make it less bulky and not as wide. Oh yah, and there are countless UHMW UFS Throne plates for dirt cheap on eBay UK.

I have not skated the Three piece souls since I was a young lad. I love the two piece souls (both the Duel plate and the generation previous style with the bubble rear soul) However in the interest in trying something new...I may need to give this a shot this summer! They look super sick Tim. Good job!!

The best thing about UFS Thrones was the 3 piece soul, because the cess slides were completely flat. I don't know why more skates haven't adopted this, and USD are fools for moving to the two piece. The souls on my size 10s were 'bookshelves' as we called them already, so there's really no reason to widen them out.

Not flat. Why the protrusion? I won't even go into the color scheme.

For me, it's two main reasons: 1) I cannot backslide to save my life with 2-piece souls... don't know what it is, just can't do it. On the other hand, I can backslide for days with the 3-piece plate... it's a lot closer to the boot. And 2) the cess slide factor. Oh, and 3) they look a lot less bulky, which is definitely a plus. Less random protrusions...

As I said, I have many sets of 3-piece backslide plates, which is all you'd need to do this... lemme know if you need a set, and we can try to make it happen.

And ift, I completely agree. I had both the original DL thrones and the brown/tan ones you posted, and they were the absolute best right out of the box. For me, it's a matter of personal preference, because I know a lot of people like wider soulplates... they're just not for me. So I'm not sure how worthwhile it would be for USD to re-release the 3-piece system. Tho they did just release the throw-back "Coup De Tat" throne... so who knows. Hmmmmm...

Anyway, I'll be testing these out tonight at TNS! Yeeeeeeeeeah.
