View Full Version : Dislocated my thumb playing dodgeball, any suggestions for a good thumb brace/splint?

I joined a dodgeball league this past fall and I dislocated my thumb during one of the games cause I goofed on a catch, ha.

I had to have it snapped back in place and all that jazz. It's been about 3 months and it's fine now but I can tell that if I fall on it blading or botch another catch, it may pop out again. I've been wearing the splint the hospital gave me to keep it in place whenever I blade or play dodgeball but that thing is huge/inconvenient so I'm looking for some sort of splint or brace to protect my thumb. I figure someone one here probably has or had a thumb problem.. Any recommendations?


Inb4 any and all Dodgeball movie references.

haha, Im double jointed in that exact spot and can make my thumb look exactly like that.

My step dad had a brace for carpal tunnel, and it was just like a nicer wrist brace you'd wear for blading but it had an extension to cover the thumb as well, if you dont mind having a wrist guard as well you could look into that. I haven't seen anything that would strictly protect the thumb/palm without going down past your wrist a bit too.

I don't mind it going past my wrist, that's no problem.The brace I'm using now goes to my elbow, haha.

I've looked at a few online but pictures don't really do these kind of things justice. Hopefully I can hear from someone who has had experience with it.

And everytime I open this thread, the picture of that thumb makes me want to puke, strangle a puppy, then puke on the puppy corpse.

i did that exact same thing playing dodgeball a few years ago, if you just go to the hospital and ask them if you can pay the have a brace basically a wristguard with an extension up to thumb that you should be able to buy from them.

This but go to a pharmacy and ask the consultant.

I can also make my thumb look like that at will, my pinky too.
