fuck yeah. havent seen a good blade photo in a while
I know nothing about taking photos. How is this lighting compared with the standard? I think it looks incredible and backslides are always a nice choice.

How is this lighting compared with the standard?
The photographer is using an off-camera flash technique to light Grant from camera left and camera right. Definitely using two flashes, maybe a 3rd on-camera at low power.
Most of the crap photos that appear on this messageboard from users (no offense) have no flash used or on-camera flash with harsh shadows in the background.
Without using different flash techniques, especially in low light conditions, you are at the mercy of the available ambient light. You then get undesirable shadows where you'd like to have good lighting and detail, like faces, skates, backgrounds, etc.
When you can control your lighting conditions, make adjustments to shutter speed and ISO, you can greatly improve the visual appeal of the photograph.
I'm a big fan of Jim's work, and I really hope that dude has figured out a way to make money with his photo skills.
