Winter street skating is not as common as it used to be in the way of edits. I love it. This edit was really thanks to my good friend Dan Knapmiller who came out and filmed with me while I tried to put blade moves on camera. Then he put them together and edited this short 2 minute piece of snow skating fun for you all to love/hate/critique whatever. No matter how much skating changes, I will always love blading outdoors. hope this pumps you up to skate in some way! I used to love skating during Winter back in NY. You go out in winter gear and warm up in a short period of time you ditch the coat and scarf and end up rolling around in a tshirt, gloves and warm beanie.

The worst part of winter skating, for me at least, was falling in the beginning of the session. It hurts so much worse in the cold.

Getting motivated to skate is the worst. So easy to say "oh everything is gonna be too snowy or its gonna be too cold, it's not worth it." then warming up takes forever, it's like impossible to just drive to a spot and lace it really quick. Falling hurts worse, I find I'm way more sore the next day. Then you add the snowy/ icy landings, and those are no picnic

I look at snow skating as something that really gives us a chance as a sport to seperate ourselves from the other summer oriented activities, skateboard and biking don't do alot of winter street type skating because one, its probably not a priority because they can afford to go someplace warm but more importantly, they ruin their equipment and cant really take advantage of full time snow skating. this lets us do something that is totally unique and identifiable to our sport alone. maybe i'm crazy but as a skater who is not paid, does not travel full time, using the ability to skate at a high level while in the cold is something that is not only a challenge, but also a completely unique experience that is both fun and has the possability of being part of a trademark when separating our sport from other concrete based action sports....

or maybe i just like playing around in the snow...it could be just be that, who knows.

^ Nah you're not alone. Skating during the winter automatically makes you a bad ass. Coming from where we get some harsh winters, it always makes me proud to see people lacing tricks surrounded by huge snowbanks. The cold really isn't that bad once you get acclimated.

you're gonna have to dry them if you skate in snow a lot, like take them out and let them dry when you're done or let them dry overnight. also if you're going to relube them, get some grease from home depot or whatever and cover the whole bearing, shields included.

Man, I NEVER changed my bearings back when I lived in NY. I skated in the snow and rain and didn't have any problems. My abec 9s that I've been using in my Fusions are 2 years old and still roll fast.
