View Full Version : How much would you spend on a skate bag that wasn't pure shit?

I am in the market for a new messenger bag or roll top bag and I was just thinking to myself, I would easily spend the same amount on one that had a skate carrying system on it. Maybe not so much a messenger bag, but a decent roll top that had a laptop compartment, waterproof inside and something to strap my skates to.
Sorry, but I think blading bags are crap now, Senate was great because the standards were easily met back in the big Senate days. But there has been no innovation and quality shit. Don't make me start a fucking company.

£50. I spent 30 on a BHC bag which is pretty good, any better would be worth big money.

i had the ground control laptop bag. that thing was dogshit. 90 dollars of dogshit.
Get the 5050 bag, it has grown on me and has clearly became my favorite bag ever...I put way to much unessasary shit in their though.
It has everything you are asking for btw...and then more.

last bag youll ever need. get some carabiner clips or just buckle your skates to the straps. i use it all the time for just about everything, and in all weather. i ride a bicycle or dirt bike and nothing has ever gotten wet. if i had the money to invest id buy a bunch of those wholesale and sell them as "skater owned".

just got a brand new (and identical to my old one i might add) orange/black senate assain bag off ebay. BDDDDDDDDDAP!!!
ive only had two skating bags. razors and jugg. both had lasted for years but something was always fucking up. eventually the whole bottom end of the razors bag frayed and gave out. the jugg bag had two large compartments separated by thin fabric..which ripped almost immediately. now i'm constantly fighting thread and losing shit between the two.
the thing that pisses me off the most is that i'm o.c.d. like a mofo. i don't throw my shit into my bags, i place them neatly. don't throw my bags, i put them down gently.
i had that ground control track jacket (you know the one i'm talking about) for over 10 years. i take care of my things so i get very frustrated when products crap all over you without justification

I have a similar bag that I bought on base and it weights 3x as much as my similarly sized REI panel loader. I used that same REI backpack to store my skates so I could ride my bike to the skatepark. If you want a tough bag that doesn't weigh as much as a whale's vagina, you are going to have to spend the scrilla. It's just that simple. Check REI outlet or a local outdoors store that sells used gear.
If you will ONLY be using it on your bike, look into a rack and panniers. Best system.

I have a mindgame odyssey bag. the skate carrying system doesn't work unless you have a shitload of stuff in the bag actually. But it's just one large compartment. so i pretty much just shove all things needed to go skate in their, skates included, and go from there. very rarely do i have enough stuff in their to need/be able to use the skate carry things. and if i do all that stuff weighs a lot.
basically yeah i wouldn't mind a bag that was actually good and actually worked. although i'm not really opposed to my curent one.
Ive had so many bags, 2 GC bags, a Razors bag, A jug bag, ect. I really liked the Jug and GC ones but after six months the zippers and lining fucks up. My GC bag I have now is being held together by 2 shoe laces..

My Runners Project bag has lasted forever, unfortunately I broke the plastic piece on one of the strap adjusters (my fault) so I can not adjust it to sit higher or lower on my back. I don't really use it anymore because of this, but other than that it has been a champ for probably over a decade. Also the zipper on the CD player pocket is broken.

Anyone tried the 2012 backpack?
got a k2 one....
The zip performed suicide in the first week
A few of the clips ran away, needed to be replaced and the straps modded so they couldn't escape the same way.
The straps that go over your shoulders are ripping away from the bag and my sewing machine isn't powerful enough to sew it back together...
now the base is thread bare and i don't really want to replace the base.

I don't have a "skate bag" but I was using a Chrome Citizen Messenger bag as just an everyday life bag. I carried a bunch of shit in there that I didn't actually need to have on me but would come in handy. Tylenol, headphones, deodorant, an extra t-shirt, allergy medicine, etc. The main pouch was waterproof and could double as a small-ish cooler if you needed it to and it had a velcro patch that opened up underneath that so you could still carry stuff in the bag without it getting wet. It was great and really durable. They're all guaranteed for life by Chrome. I fucking loved that bag. Too bad some piece of shit smashed my window and stole it out of my car about a month ago. Probably gonna get another one in July for my birthday.

i got pads, helmet, a full change of clothes, tools, wax, essentials (phone, wallet, mp3), small spare parts (straps buckles and bolts), and my skates, in the K2 after i modded it.
the kizer one looks legit... i'm just not sure I trust the thing to last more than 6 months.
I want that new kizer bag, or even the one from last year black and grey, 85 bucks though? Wtf . I would never bring my military packs for skating...or civilian stuff at all unless I'm going on a solo ruck march. I knew guys in NC that did it though, works pretty good as those packs are super solid I've never seen a pack rip or fall out, even with 75+ pounds of mostly useless shit in there.
I have a Kizer bag from several years back (the black and red one) - it's really nice and never failed me.
It got a big compartment to fit your skates in (with some straps to hold them) and two other compartments.
The one in the front got several small pockets in side them to fit your tool, phone, mp3 player and such.
In the front there are two pockets to hold a set of spare frames (they fit with wheels in there).
Best skate bag I ever owned...
There is enough room in there for all you skate-trip needs.

Anyone tried the 2012 backpack?
yep, i have it for like one and a half month. i LOVE it! i use it every day, because i bring my skates to school, and some clothes for skating. it's big enough, very very comfy, has a tons of cool features and the zippers seems very strong. worth the money!
I use my second hand North Face. Better than any blade backpack.
Senate bags were the greatest.Speaking of Senate bags, I've got one for sale. Used one time. Ships from France (kinda). Hit me up.

if you want a bag that'll last forever, find an army navy surplus store and they're sure to have tough as shit canvas bags you can beat the shit out of.

It's a little more difficult to fit my skates in than my Bailey Works. But I learned my lesson the last time I attempted to cycle a distance with my skates in a messenger bag.
Senate bags were amazing and set a standard 15 years ago. But that standard never changed, bags haven't gotten worse, they just haven't gotten any better.

Oh, and if I want to go lighter I take this:
http://www.cambags.com/nikon/d70/shoulder/images/lowepro_specialist_85aw/lowepro_specialist_85aw_sommer_3.jpg
It has a big, padded waist buckle to keep it from moving around on your back. It has side straps that you can use for your skates. There's enough room in to put a camera, lenses, some shirts and other small stuff. Also waterproof.

Better yet, go on eBay and save $40 over a surplus store: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_kw=Fox+Rio+Grande+45+Liter
45 liter, tough as shit for $37.

Also, I hardly ever take a bag any more if I do even skate. I just take my skates on a carabiner because Sifika liners have shitty carry straps.

Yeah, they're definitely not great for carrying your blades. I only used it for that once, haha. I always brought it with me when blading (or going anywhere for that matter) but I usually just carried my blades by hand since I was always driving or in a car.

Still have my original Kizer Weekender, the grey and black one. I think I bought it sometime in 2004...
It's been through school and skating every day for 4 years, then every skate trip I've ever been on since, and
3x NASS festivals
1x Glastonbury festival
1x Motorbike journey through Europe
2x Moving countries
Thing is a WARRIOR and it just keeps going! Might buy a new one soon just to have something fresher, I hope they still make them like they used to!
i've had the same salomon skate bag since about 1999 now. its the perfect bag. large compartment, smaller front pocket. top pocket, straps on the side for skates, a bottom pocket perfect for socks, and 2 small padded side pockets that fit cellphones/ipods perfectly.
