View Full Version : Freeskate frames/powerblades/rec skates/speed skating thread
So I got some aluminum UFS frames with ~80mm wheels a while back and used them for the third time last night. I just skated all over checking out spots and doing some rub bricking and clear coating. I stopped by this trendy bar to see if they were still serving food and got some really, really confused looks from the hip people and waiter, then I got tacos instead.
Skating fast is fun as shit, and 55mm freestyle setups are just ridiculous.
Who else been doing some rec blading? I think I'm gonna do this more often.

Exactly...
Loving my Powerblade frames and wheels. I only wish they'd offer 110mm UFS frames...
I planned on using my old Salomon boots + Powerblade frames for a cheap rec skate setup

but then I put the frames on my Crabans and they were more fun

I'll skate a bit and do some stair bashes in them from time to time

I think I might be interested where this was going down. I've been making use of your previous work down at Riverfront Park recently.
I thought about starting some rec to get back into blading.
Bought some Rollerblade rec skates and still got my Remz in my garage catching dust.
Been off the game for about 3-4 years - I got old and fat...
I'm 30 now and I really miss skating again, but I have to work on my stamina first...
I have the feeling that skating will always be a part of my live (even if I just watch videos and don't skate).
Chwarg do it man. Just striding around picking up some speed or going down a garage is so damn fun.
theguy I sprayed a ledge by the water at UT where you'd hit a 4 stair rail and come off the kink to grind a 6 foot ledge, then I sprayed a curve ledge at a park on bayshore near the Publix and Convention Center, then I sprayed some little column/cornerstone things for bonk grind taps into a wheelchair ramp.
I'm skating USF tonight if you're interested in meeting up.
s. I did the opposite
I wasn't feeling the carbon/tall frame combo, but it feels pretty nice with Salos. I'd still like higher ankle support with the tall frames.

Rob g always posts his freeskate trips on instagram and it's like 15 miles. Haha he inspired me I do about 3-4 miles a day now and try to skate the Prail a little afterwards too. It's fun hauling ass like that.

Salomon Mintons, RB UFS fame, 72mm Cozmos, K2 Grindplate...epic ride

nga plz, your carbons =/= my carbons, get a cuff ;)
C. is doing it right on those Cozmos.
I just want some Kaltik style frames that can fit 68s 4 down and still have a little room for grinds.

Lol noooo he uses the rollerblade ap that came out. He always post his freeskates pic too. That bastard runs like ten miles in the sand too. Haha he is doing that crossfit shit I think
i opted for a pair of sebas instead of powerblade frames. i borrowed my buddy's advances for a bit and didn't like they way they rode. they felt very sluggish and aggressive boots just aren't as good for recreational skating. i use them once or twice a week for skating 4km around the seawall in my city, and do some cone skating with them.
as an aside, i recommend cone skating to all aggressive skaters. it seems to have a really bad rep, but it will help with your foot-body coordination, spacial awareness, balance, response time, switch shoulders, switch crossovers, etc. and the skills have definitely transferred over to my 'real'/aggressive skating.

The Seba guys are doing this freeskate/aggressive crossover thing. They basically took the RB Solo soul plates, turned them around, put some grind plates on the frames and haul ass.

Kizer Arrows on Cult boots with 75mm wheels. I was doing half cabs into a 20 foot grass transition a few weeks ago. I also like to 180 onto shit. I never stop rolling though. I never have a destination but when it's time to go home I am normally a mile and a half away minimum. Hauling ass straight down on a sidewalk is fucking awesome.
I just tried the rec skates I bought - they are killing my feet after a while.
Anyone tried the Imperials?
I'm considering to buy some Imperials with some Advanced frames - good setup?

Most fun I've had in years...but people are going to say I'm biased...but it ain't true, like it makes any difference to me to be talking about fluids or Advance frames or Type M's, all the same in terms of work, but I'm loving the big wheel setups too much to go back to small wheels atm!

As for the Imperials, they are great feeling skates but they fit really tight/small so make sure to size up half a size.
Yo, Oli. I want (plastic) UFS frames that hold 110mm wheels. Hook me up, plz.
Yo, Oli. I want (plastic) UFS frames with a Kaltik groove that hold max 64mm or 68mm wheels. Hook me up, plz.
+this (available in 59, 64, 68, 72...)

I would certainly not say no to a groove, too. But I really want a frame with large(r) wheels to go... hella fast. And I don't want to buy 312313 € Bont skates that break my ankles the first time I try standing up in them. Ya dig?
That would be fun, but I want aggro centered frames with >60mm. 80mm is way too big for practical grinding, and the added length of the frame is too 'skis' feeling.

Seee everyone wants something different! We're working on a couple of new options :)

Yeah I don't have 'Powerblading' frames I couldn't wait :?
The aluminum ones I got from K2 Il Capos are pretty great for haulin tho

Powerblading is fucking stupid, unless you actually skate for transportation.
skate for transportation.
The essence of this thread - thanks for contributing though.
I think it's the same as doing tricks on a track bike. I did a makio once. And ao fish in a mini ramp. And a couple fish stalls on top of banks. I just want to go fast, that is all I care about.

i have some K2 Radical 90s and some Xsjados with RB Fusion frames on them. if i'm cruising the city i use the Xsjados, but if im trying to get somewhere i use the K2s. like tonight i skated to skatelab on my K2s and just hauled my regular skates in my backpack, then skated back home from the park in the K2s. i love em.
its also a great workout.
Freeskated around downtown Atl with two dudes last night 8)
Bombed parking garages, did stair rides, played with banks and hips, wallrides/bonks, ledge rolls, skitching... I even did some step on makios. Nice.

put the il capo frames on the solo tribes with some old senate aluminum grind plates. haven't really used them though. not alot of sidwalks by my apartment and i don't feel like getting hit by a car again in my lifetime. hoping to find a park that i could use these at to get some excersise

I love my Advances/80mm on my salomons, really funny shredding around town and on some long distances! Just ordered Kaltik with 60mm wheels, can't wait.
I have those Il Capo frames on Salomons. They're not 'for' tricks just for cruising. Skate some parking garages at night... maybe find one of those bike trails through the woods?
i got to ride the new seba fr-a skates this past weekend, they are fucking amazing and i am turning my seba frx into them. they come with a rockered frame, solo-style soulplate, and a weird grindplate thingy between the 3rd and 4th wheels. seriously the funnest loaner skates i have ever rode.

Just got some kizer advanced with the black 80mm RB wheels for fathers day. I set them up with bones Swiss. Went out for a skate through my town and up through the local college. Takes some getting used to but the speed is alot of fun. I just hope my grinderblades don't feel funny afterwards. I scoped out a couple good ledges on my way through the college. I will definitely use these frames for getting around and to keep me in shape.

They do :(
It would be totally cool if they felt "fun"ny... But unfortunately that is not the case...

I dunno. When I got back on my Valos, I felt more confident in them. I suppose it could be attributed to the fact that my Cults/Arrows feel so damn sketchy on landings. My grinderblades feel super stable.

Only skated them a few times, but they're really fun. My friend skitched me down a cement/gravel path on his motor bicycle.
I want to skate some dirt jumps

i've already done a backslide in them. not as hard as i thought it would be. most def was not the cleanest looking grind i've ever done but the sparks that ensued were very entertaining.
