Been busy travelling around the country for the past month or so. Had to deal with family issues, money issues, and work issues. Also spent some great times with many friends all over the place, celebrated NYE like a boss, took care of my young cousins, and bladed a bit (but definitely not as much as I'd have wanted). Got drunk, high, and stuffed with great food.

2011 was great.

Now I'm getting ready to pack my stuff. I'm leaving for Brussels on Monday, and if I can land a job fast, I'll be making the move up there for good on the 1st of February. Moving sure is a bitch Kentosaurus, and I don't want to think of the material issues too much so far, but at the same time it will bring many new opportunities, places to skate, friends to hang out with, and girls to bang. Plus I'll live really close to Hanzel & Ze Winterclash as well.

2012 will be great.

Wouldn't be fair to start the year off without one of those, though :

Forward Freestyle is about 1 hour away. Same with Wevelgem.

Eindhoven and Rotterdam are about 1h30 away.

Amsterdam, Lille, Almere and a couple other indoor parks are close enough.

If you like skating park avoid Brussels at all costs, no good parks. But like street spots their are tons if get in touch with one of the guys.. Also indoor parks their is Zumiez which is about 1h by car but it's often full of skateboarders, wait till the Belgian school holidays are over and go on a week day, than it should be quiet. Ehm also forward freestyle but it's gotten mega slippy recently cos of dust.. but still a beast park and always bladers there

Ian, how is your knee doing? Did I read correctly that you may have torn your MCL?

Yeah no MRI or xray, but I've talked to two MD professors of mine, and one did some manipulations and history taking and thought it seemed highly likely I hurt my MCL and unlikely I hurt and of the other collateral ligaments. Wether I also injured my meniscus is my main concern. The second professor I talked to seemed to think it was more likely than not to have been involved, but I can't get this fully evaluated until the end of April unless I want to take a risk or a sacrifice of losing a semester of time with school. Not really sure what the best thing to do is at the moment.

It's been ten days, and I'm doing some stretching and light working of my quads and hamstrings right now actually. If it was as minor a tear as I'd hoped I'd be fully recovered by now...

What happened with your knee again, F.E.?

I first tore the shit out of my right MCL in November 2007, about 50% torn. Was in a leg straightener from ankle to mid-thigh for over a month, couldn't drive. Used to wake up in the middle of the night in intense pain, screaming. I had no insurance, and no doctor.

I got a job with good benefits, and in April 2009 I went to a sports medicine doctor because my right thigh was losing mass and my left one was gaining mass. I was prescribed a knee brace to keep my kneecap in proper alignment, and in 5 months my thighs evened back out.

Fast forward to December 2009, and I snapped my ACL in half, tore my MCL a little and tore my lateral meniscus a little. Had a double bundle ACL reconstruction and the surgeon fixed up my MCL and meniscus in January of 2010.

My knee is the best it's been since early 2007.

Its been 11 days, and I don't experience any pain unless I jerk it around or stretch it too fast or further than I'm comfortable. I can't straighten it all the way right now, but I could for the first two days. I did some really light movement/stretching/exercise yesterday which felt good, but I was laying on my back doing some forward 'air bicycling' then tried backward, and my knee was clicking and it kinda freaked me out.

My school is renovating it's gym, and it was supposed to open yesterday. Maybe by the end of the week I can get on an exercise bike and put it on low/no resistance.

When I first tore my MCL, I had to go to the emergency room, my leg was all curled up like a flamingo's leg. It took two doctors to straighten it out, and I almost slugged one because it hurt so bad. They gave me the leg straightener, it cost about $100 with no insurance.


I know that you said that you'd have to wait until April to have it looked at or whatever, but dude...aren't you in med school? Isn't anyone there qualified to examine you? :neutral:

Yeah yeah but there isn't an MRI on the island. There are quite a few MD professors I can have help me out with this stuff, but it's actually a little embarrassing, and I don't want to annoy them like 'evaluate me evaluate me!!'

The guy whose opinion I trust most manipulated me and took the history of the injury and said it seemed like a minor MCL tear and didn't suspect any major meniscal involvement, but I wouldn't know for sure until I started bearing a lot of weight on the joint. Another MD I talked to today just said in a general sense that it was highly likely I also injured my medial meniscus given the way I twisted my leg and that I had injured my MCL.

That's good that you've asked round. I think it would be of great benefit to you to not skate or bear heavy loads until you can get an MRI to make sure that you won't do further damage to your meniscus, if indeed there is a tear.

PM Mike Callahan if you want to get some insight on meniscus tears, he doesn't have much in one of his knees anymore.
